additional tommasini dating info

Hi all Tommasini fans ,

I don't know if I have shared this before but here are a few things I have observed ; I think around 1990 Tommasini started to use an internal conduit to help guide the rear internal brake cable through the top tube . From frames I have actually owned the ones with this feature will have the Silva cable cover ART 141 which is similar in looks to the original design but will have a diamond shaped flange where it joins to the top tube. The internal tube makes it very easy to run the cable through . This feature seems to have also seen standardisation of the cable going in at the 12 o'clock position at the front and rear. Country codes on the bottom bracket shell generally are easy to de-cipher if you are the original owner , I have seen US , IRL and GB . One that Barbara told me about on a recent visit to Grosetto was " VP " which stands for Van peteghem the one time Belgian importer . Van Peteghem's shop is in St Niklaas Belgium , I bought a late model Prestige there . The 1996 Belgian pro team RDM-Zetelhallen raced on lugged Tommasini techno frames yellow in colour and were a successful team on the Kermis circuit. Looking at the Information that all the brilliant detective work of forum members have provided I would say Kevindale's faded red Tommasini was immediately pre Prestige and a nd when the air forks came in that became the Prestige. Yes great riding bikes hard not to like , cheers Kermisking.

Tommasini Super Prestige Project

Hi folks, I've been reading the thread for the last few months and have gained a lot of valuable information so cheers! My tommasini Super Prestige project has finally arrived, unfortunately I can't share a photo yet as I haven't posted enough yet. I'm going to kit it out with all high end modern components as I really like a vintage/modern bike and want to get the most I can out of this bike. From what I know it is an early 90s frame in blue and white but I'll contact Barb this week and see what she can tell me.

I think I'm finally done so I feel like I can post here now. Apologies to the purists, as I went all modern on the build. I am very pleased with the ride, to the point that I retired my 'daily driver' carbon for this one. Frame was aquired from shoota. 1985 Super Prestige with Ultegra 6800 group.

I just got my first Tommasini after years of hunting. These pictures are exactly how it was when I purchased it, so any suggestions very welcome for changes. Right away I know I’ll need to get the Chorus aero seatpost, and the next step will be to replace the wheels/tires. What do you all think?

picked it up for $350 here in Italy pretty excited!

Wonder if anyone could tell me whether this frame has the charscteristics of an.early Tommasini.....

https://www.ebay.com/itm/TOMMASINI-P...9a527b06de96c8

I know this is a little rough and old, but I wanted to know if it is an authentic Tommasini. Thanks for any info.

eBay Purchase... verifying that it is a Tecno

Just purchased a Tommasini Tecno "I think" off eBay from a seller in Italy. Judging from the photo's, it appears to be in great shape frame/paint-wise. Full Dura Ace, etc. The only concern is the lack of the 'Tommasini' and 'Tecno' pantographs on the top of the bottom braket, along with the lack of a second set of water bottle bosses on the seat tube. everything else looks very legit (lug work, pantograph "T's" in all the right places, the unique seat stay, etc. Way back in 2013, post number #36 had a photo of a mystery bike with the nearly the same paint scheme, minus the "Tecno" decal. Could this be an early prototype, a European only frame, etc.? The attached pics are from the eBay add... the bike is on the way. Its a Tommasini and for the purchase price it doesn't
really matter exactly what it is (based on all the rave reviews of pretty much any Tommasini model), but I'd like to know for sure.

It is a Tommasini, not a bargain but the chain ring is very nice.

It's a Tecno with the Sintesi styled lugset. In about 1997 they reverted the Tecno back to the Sintesi styled seat lug (main difference is the location of the T triangle) and added oversize. This graphic is called the "Violin Key" or Chiave di Violino. The lack of bb engraving and the unicrown fork tells me is was built to hit a price. Remember, unlike us fanatics, some folks look at these as tools!

Great bike, btw.

I saw that posting on ebay, and I'm glad it went to a forum member. I wouldn't worry too much about the lack of bosses and panto. It looks great. Now you just have to sell the Dura Ace stuff and replace it with Campagnolo...

Agreed... Have a couple US of A frames that need to be built up and Dura Ace would work. Just scored a 1990 super clean SP with a wild, almost perfect paint job off CL for a bargain price, so I'm 2 deep into Tommasini now. Thats it. No more (at this point!).

But for that bargain price, it came with authentic Italian dust, cobwebs from one of the rarest spiders in Italy, as well as those stunning chainrings. I'll give most of it to you if you're interested. Send an address where I can mail them to. But I'm keeping the chainrings for a 1987 Glenn Erickson frame (also pristine).

Oh, I mean, if you wanted to offload that Tecno frame to concentrate on the SP, it might not be the worst idea ever...

They're both still in transit... the Tecno from the motherland, and the SP from Bend, OR. From the photo's, both look to be in excellent shape, so I'll ride them both and make a decision wrt to direction, etc.

But... I just broke my back and neck in a horrible crash (C7 break, and a T3 "Burst Fracture" which is the worst (many small bits and pieces). No paralysis, but to say that was a possibility is an understatement. So for a few months, I can just look at them both and imagine! We live at 9k feet in Crested Butte, Colorado and the real downer is our short summer ends in early October which is about the time i may be able to get back on he bike. But I'm alive, so I'll deal with it and be thankful.
