Vintage "Glider"
Picked this up for $50. Does anyone know how to identify the year? Does anyone have a catalogue for this to see? I think it is made in Canada, Eaton's Glider? This is my first exposure to an Archer 3 speed hub!

Does that grip say "Made in England"? Can you make out the figure on the pedal blocks?
Look for a two-digit number on the hub body. That will be the year for the hub, anyway.

This one was contract manufactured by Raleigh for Eaton's. Serial number?

So it's from 1974. The 12 **MIGHT** indicate the month, so this might officially have been a 1975 model. "Made in Canada"? Assembled, maybe.
I believe that's Sir Walter on the pedal block.

What you have is basically an entry level Raleigh 3 speed bike from about 1974. I owned one myself, a men's version bought for $25 at a garage sale in like new condition about 35 years ago. I used it as a commuter bike when I lived close to downtown Montreal. These bikes were sold by the thousands every year by the Eaton's department stores. Nice bikes, but not nearly as nice as the Raleigh Sports model. You paid a fair price for it in current condition. even fixed up, it won't be worth a whole lot more
Raleigh had a manufacturing facility in Waterloo Quebec which opened in 1973, so this bike could well have been built in Canada using parts imported mostly from England. The plant was closed in 2013

A frame manufactured by Raleigh Canada can be identified by the format of the serial number, which will typically be stamped on the back of the upper seat tube.
