Oof, it really isn't winter, yet, is it. But I have rollers, now. I'll make it.

Yep, I took advantage of the weather to get a new cellar door installed and do yard work. Home ownership. So glamorous.

Not when your CTL is only 50 to begin with

I'll give it a few easy rides this week and be ready to go by next. This ain't my first rodeo!

Second day off... legs are still super sore.

Also, they're freakin' huge right now

I haven't downloaded my rides to CA in like 12 days because it's depressing and I'm too fragile to face it.

Pretend this is an end of season break! You come back stronger afterward.

it's complicated because injured and moderately bummed now is a preview of my child-laden and bummed-then future.

I did ride 30 miles and 20 miles Saturday and Sunday, but even the very-low-moderate effort Sunday seems to have set me back so now I'm on the unprecedented path of taking like 3 full days off.

can you stop with the "being bummed about having kids" comments? it's just kind of...off putting. at first i thought you were kidding but you've repeated it so many times i'm starting to think you're serious. why the hell would have have kids if you don't want them?

You might surprise yourself at how good you feel after a little time off the bike. Also fwiw I didn't take any time off after crashing earlier this year and my neck only stopped hurting like a month ago. Might have made more sense to lay low for a week.

I can't speak about the kids situation considering I don't even have a houseplant.

Agreed. Fudgy as you know I hit the deck pretty hard twice this year (well once was actually a kid) but time off isn't a bad thing. Neither are kids so long as you can maintain balance.

2x20 @ 93% aka Metcalfe Protocol. Actually I was aiming for 90% but both intervals ended up high. For some reason 90% is hard to target, I kept creeping up to 100% and having to back down.

One thing about doing 2x20s under 100% though, recovery is practically instantaneous. I rested for a couple minutes between intervals but I felt good to go after about 15 seconds. I got 100 TSS in a short ride without feeling a lot of load.

@Ygduf re kids, I'm not going to tell you or suggest how you should feel, and I understand that an internet bro cave like this offers an outlet for possibly ironic expression of anxiety. However, there is a major school of thought that says that repeatedly expressing feelings, even self-consciously or ironically, can result in manifesting those feelings.

I know you're totally unfamiliar with anxieties, so I understand the lack of empathy around a disruption like that.

Anyway, sorry all. Thanks for the words. I was posting previously after just waking up and assessing the new-day level of pain/discomfort/healing/whatever. In 6 weeks I'll be back taking otf selfies again and will have forgotten that I was ever hurt. In 6 months I'll (probably) enjoy my children and wonder what I was ever worried about. Pre-coffee is not a time of strong perspective for me!

1:45 on the trainer last night, and with the biblical rains we are having in the PNW, it looks like another 1:45ish on the trainer tonight. Enjoying 'The Man in the High Castle' on the trainer these days.

I don't interweb or answer text/email until after my coffee-bike ride-more coffee routine for similar reasons :-)
Hope you feel better! I'm looking forward to seeing you in a couple weeks!
