Built a wheel today
Yup. Took me 3-4 hours, and I had to start over a couple times, but I got it. It is straight as an arrow, perfectly round, and the spokes evenlly tight. It is nothing special, just a cheap steel wheel we had laying around. So I took it apart and started from scratch. Next I think I might try building a set of wheels for my MTB.

It isn't as hard as I expected it to be, it just took some patience and attention to detail, as well as developing a system. A truing stand is an absolute must, duh.

OK, now for the real test-go to the closest steep hill, stop at the bottom, then hammer up it as hard as you can. How many "plinks" do you hear? If it's fewer than 3, the wheel is good.

There is nothing quite so satisfying as
riding on a bike that you built, on wheels that
you laced up.
Good on ya Fubar.
