2 lbs over race weight at 147 lbs this morning. This is a good weight for me and where I most often measure. I had a lot to eat and drink over the weekend, but also a lot of riding, so maybe it balanced. We'll see how things level off in the coming days as my body gets back to normal.

Hovering 4-5 lbs above my target weight. I'm going to do another round of intermittent fasting.

I had my annual with my cardiologist a couple of weeks ago. She is a runner and bases her practice around athletes, diet, exercise and etc. She does her morning run before work on 6 ounces of coffee and an empty stomach. She claims that our digestive system and supporting energy systems are not designed for constant caloric intake. We perform much better when we include fasting in the diet and do not eat too much. She is skinny but looks amazing for her age. N=1.
I like her because she is one of the few docs that can read my echo and and listen to my heart think it is great for me as an athlete.
Skinny and fasted = good.

I like it. I am doing the 16-8 daily IF. Basically I don't eat between 8pm and noon the next day. I've never been a huge breakfast guy, so the main effect is to shut down the post-dinner snacking. I struggled with higher intensity workouts at the start, but I am hitting my targets and they are getting easier. I think some of it is psychological.

Wout van Aert, the Belgium TdF rider, who came in second to Cav on a sprint finish and the NEXT day won the double climb up Mount Venteux is my new fav pro racer - 6’2” 172 pounds 26 years old. He pulled away from a pack of typical climbers and made them seem slow on Venteux on the second time up.

I have continued with the intermittent fasting doing training rides with little to no food in my stomach - road and track workouts.

Re: fasting, I do try to skip breakfast giving me a 16-18 hr fast a couple days a week. Maybe I should make that a more regular thing. My weight has been ticking up slightly from 166 to 167-8. My only races left this year are flat raceway track circuit, and a couple crits so I'm OK with a couple extra pounds, but maybe I'll try to get back to 165-6 for CX season.

150 lbs this morning, a bit portly. I guess it's sorta of TBE after a week off wining and dining in the PNW!

Weight at around 148-149 last couple mornings. which is totally fine. Gotta say I thoroughly enjoyed those extra couple lbs!
K Vinters has amazing Syrah
next level Mediterranean at Saffron
Nice and warm in Walla Walla- not too hot!
Yes that is our UHaul... we waited too long and there were no rental cars available :lol. Not the best vehicle for a 4 hours drive from Walla Walla to Portland, but we made it work!

How long does weight proper lag behind changes in training volume of "feed your face" input?
I had the big week before vacation. Then a really low week on vacation and a tad after. Then a decent week this past week.
Seemed weight didn't go down during the big week before, but despite eating/drinking as I please and a short vacation week.........weight was static. But now that I had a solid week after vacation......it actually decided to go up.
Reason I ask is that I've always had this maybe poor assumption that it's pretty instant. Like a day later. Enough to account for recovery or whatever.
How's that work?

Pretty pleased that I gained a grand total of 1/2 pound over the last week while I was off the bike. Helped that I was able to get in a couple of runs, but I basically ate whatever I wanted.

Another thing that happens especially when losing weight is a plateau, where it's harder than it should be to break through a certain weight. I know we like to say it's just math, calories in vs calories burned, but it doesn't always work that way.

Hermes what are you doing differently besides starting this thread?
Intermittent fasting reduced the amount of food purchased each week. Also, I think the fasted HIIT sessions have an impact on weight loss. I think it is just a better workout for me.

Friday weigh in has me back down to 150.
Hermes With your fasting, it sounds like you are reducing your food volume as well since you say it is has reduced the amount of food purchased. Are you running a caloric deficit as well as fasting or eating the same calories just in a smaller time frame?

Thanks. I was just curious as I've done some reading on different diets and am always interested in the discussions around all diets (fasting, keto, paleo etc) work because they all generally create a caloric deficit by cleaning up some of the poor eating habits and some work because they create hormonal changes that impact weight and body comp and how the two are sometimes conflated. Fasting tends to have more hormonal changes discussion around it than the others.

I was down to 181 last week (182 this morning. I'll chalk it up to random fluctuation). That's the lowest I've been since 2004 or 2005.
I went from 175 in 2002 up to, in fits and starts, 215 in late 2012. Down to 195 by Spring 2013 and held steady until 2017 when I went back to 215. Down to 188 Fall 2019. Back to 215 by Fall 2020 (thanks, COVID!). My final goal is 175 and then I'll look at myself to see if there's any obvious extra fat I could lose. My waist is obviously smaller and none of my pants fit without a belt anymore, so that's good.
