Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

...and yay! The used 52-36 Ultegra chainring set I overpaid for on FleaBay is out for delivery, so my tiny legs will be in hyper-efficient spinny mode for tomorrow morning's suburban flail. Hope the thing isn't too garfed up.

Relative humidity should go down, though. ¿Que no? Here it just stays up.

Just wrapped up a long, slow solo ride - just short of 89 miles. Great weather for it - mid-80s and sunny. So as to avoid a BillyD conniption, I decided to not take a pic of my mid-ride snack.

Did you have the decency to wash it down with a Diet Coke?

it’s right around 100 degrees in the afternoon. 100 degrees is really no big deal, even with the humidity(33% right now).

I’m fine with the conditions today, but it’s definitely a change from 113 and dry.

We had a great ride today. Temps moderate and sunshine. 100% fun. Except for the huge dumptruck that was oncoming and crossed well over the double yellow line and came within a foot or so of hitting several riders head-on. That was NOT fun. Scary. I wonder if my lack of a front blinkie was a factor? I was wearing a high viz jersey.

Be careful out there.

maybe instead of a blinkie a better investment would be a go-pro or similar. At least then if anything happened there may be evidence for an insurance or legal claim.

Ew, no. The place where I stopped didn't have any cans of Coke, only plastic bottles, which are both too big and not as tasty, so I got some cold espresso drink.

Too scary and unavoidable to think about. When we race at night in bad weather on the ocean, it’s pretty dangerous, but doctrine, the right gear, skill, and a little bit of thought go a long way toward keeping you alive. Out on the road, there really isn’t a damn thing you can do.

Doctrine... One of my least favorite words in the language. I never thought of it in this regard though.

They're so cheap right now and prolly the best bang for your buck in terms of performance upgrade (if you're still spinning platters).

I kinda want to get an M.2 nvme SSD just because. I don't think that it'll provide any real improvement vs my current sata SSD but... it's a newer form factor and therefore snazzier.
