Found a link and close-up of a Trivelox having the shift cable on drive side, unlike the advert one posted. Curious of the substantial 3 wheel chain tensioner. My thought was just using a single Simplex (2 bolt mount on chainstay) but perhaps that will be too flexy.

Here's a link to a page from a "James Arrow Ace Convertible Touring Tadem." Trivalex was the standard on this, but mine had already been replaced by a suntour 5 speed when I got it.

Courtesy of Disraeli Gears, found this French Audouard interesting. Patent date of 1911 and the advert 1914. The two cables, one on each end of the hollow axle, simply operate in a pull action. There must have been a slot thru the hub for a dog to move a sliding cogset. In this case, a four speed. I can't figure how that tensioner cooperated. Must have been tough on the jockey swing arm.
