Santa Ana residents and bicycle activists are encouraged to join us in a community discussion meeting about bicycle safety and challenges in Santa Ana in order to help develop a better bicycle safety program. They will be discussing bicycle lanes, trails, amenities, and bicycle safety and security.

It is taking place Saturday February 22nd, at the Santa Ana Main Public Library from 3-5pm.

Hopefully the missing link of the Santiago Creek is discussed. The area would be much safer for everyone involved.

One thing when you go to the meeting on Feb 22: the traffic lights aren't meant for bike riders.

For instance, I am on the left lane for a turn and waiting for a green arrow. Sometimes it never turns green for me until a car gets behind me. Other times the traffic lights are timed for the flow of cars that can travel faster than a bike rider. For instance, early in the morning the lights go green and then suddenly it changes before I get half way across the big intersection.

I am betting that very little change will occur in traffic lights because cars (motorized vehicles) outnumber bikes and its the drivers behavior that is in question, and not bike riders. To bring bike riders into the equation on traffic lights will only create drivers who want to "beat the light".
