Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Thank you for not having those ugly claw shaped cages. Your cages are proper. Arundel?

Made some recommended changes - it’s getting there!

I found out for sure this frame was manufactured in Taiwan at Fairly bikes in 1995 of likely Tange Prestige Ultimate steel. Decided to keep the frame and original groupset of the era, and as it had a threaded fork did my best to get the right quill adaptor and modern stem/bar setup. Maybe long term I’ll throw a threadless setup on it. Also got rid of the ugly set back seat post and put on a zero set back. It rides like a dream. I like the red and white and black so keeping to that theme.

Just picked this guy up to replace my 928. Stock except saddle, tires, powermeter and chain swap so far and chopped steerer. Need to get a slamyourstem bearing cover and get it a bit lower. Will probabaly build some carbon clinchers for it over the winter with some dt240s I have laying around.

Good friend of mine spent two years handwringing about his dream bike and how to build it. When it was time, he picked the same Oltre. Congrats. Sweet bike.

Any color of tape besides black will probably generate the same confusion.

NOT feeling warning stickers on the rims. Why is the gap between the seat tube and rear wheel so large? Even if the bar end caps are gold you’re gonna need some more to pull off that chain. Maybe a knecklace like Super Mario could help Your background is far from neutral.

Yup deserved that. Posting in here was premature as I had only removed the front warning sticker which was annoyingly hard to remove even with a heat gun and plastic razor blade. The gap is due to increasing tire clearance for 32s without increasing chainstay length significantly compared to the xr4 by thinning the seattube. One of my bucketlist goals is being competitive at BWR so that means bring a road bike that clears wider tires over a cross bike. I'll be sure to channel my inner cipollini whenever I ride. Gold chain gang for life!

A brand spankin' new garage door and swapping out the huge hybrid internal/external cam Campy QR skewers for much leaner internal cam Ultegra skewers is surely enough reason to post, right? RIGHT???

Liking the big pie plate in the rear. I do appreciate the honesty there. Hot. If I bought carbon it would be either a madone or an oltre but going back...to ti myself.

Can a bargain spare parts build be hot? Revival of an old frame, with only the rear derailleur and wheels being new. I'll call myself out on the ugly saddle, until I can replace it. On the fence over white cages (not my first choice).

You stole my recommendations before they could be typed. Saddle is a bit funky and cages need to be black. Otherwise, I think it’s hot.
