Dahon Stowaway 1998 7 speed - which rear gears, which tires?
Hi,
First post, two questions!
My bike is a 7 speed, 20" and I believe from 1998 (serial# is DA89H....)
1. I just replaced the chain and now, of course, it jumps teeth sometimes in the rear so I need to replace that too.
I was told by a bike tech that some bikes have a cassette and some have a freewheel. Can someone help me with which part I need to order to replace those rear gears.
2. The tires have some abrasions on the side, which I think is from the brakes. I'm going to replace the tires, but I'm wondering if these tires are the wrong size and maybe that may have caused the problem? They are 20 x 1.5 and I had thought spec was 20 x 1.75 but I don't see how too skinny of a tire is going to cause that?
Any help much appreciated, thanks!!
Mark

Could of come with either size tires. Probably needs a careful brake fitting. I believe it will be a freewheel most probably a 12 to 28 seven speed. Take the rear wheel off the bike and take off the freewheel/cassette and then you will know. If you can not do that bring the wheel to a bike shop and they can do it. They can also sell the part you need. Roger
I will add I have 2 Boardwalks of the era and currently they have 1.50s on the front and 1.75 on the the rear. The tires were made by Kenda for what its worth. Roger
