Got and hints tips or tricks for an extended tour through central america?
I'll be leaving from Portland, Or April 1st and riding south until I find the Panama Canal. My current plan is to ride through the Cali coast and Baja. Stay on Mexico's pacific coast until Mexico city and then cut over into the Yucatan then into Guatemala and then south and south some more.
I'm a bike mechanic at a shop currently so I think I've got the bike think handled. I speak Spanish well and have hostel backpacked around Nicaragua and Guatemala a few years back. I've also toured around the Northwest coast, mountains and desert a bit.
What else should I know or think about?
Has anybody else ridden through central america?
Maybe somebody has random tidbits to throw at me?
Thoughts concerns questions or comments?

You might find this old (2007) thread about touring in Central America useful: https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...-american-tour
Here are 12 links to information about bike touring in Mexico.
A detailed page about bike touring in Guatamala (describes tours in 2004 and 2005): https://www.ridetheroad.com/web/trip.aspx?tripID=82
Not all of the links will be of interest of you but some likely will be.
Sounds like a quite an adventure. Have a great time.
