Help on buying a Concorde Prelude

Hi, I am a newbie and do not have much experience in steel bikes. I have ridden my friends steel bikes and I own a low end peugeot and loved the ride. I am currently looking to get a higher quality steel bike than the one I currently own. The bike that I have been looking at is a Concorde Prelude. I have done my research and found a bunch of information on the brand Concorde, I haven't seen much on the Prelude though. Could any one tell me if this bike is worth getting? Right now it is being listed at $500.

Good looking Concorde!

From what I can see from that picture, I don't think it's worth $500.

If I'm seeing it right, I think it has a Shimano 105 crank, which was at the bottom end of Shimano. It's not a bad working group, but it's not very pretty and keeps the value lower than Campy. You should ask what group is on the bike though, and while your at it, find out if it's Columbus steel. SL would be top-of-the-heap, while Aelle is mid-level. Many Concordes came in Aelle, and if it is and it is Shimano equipped, I would price it at about $300-350. SL would bring it higher and closer to $500.

Looks like a nice one though...

Cranks are Mavic 631. Frame tubing would have to be something special to go north of $300.

respectfully disagree with Giacomo 1 on the Columbus tubing hierarchy. I would rank SLX above SL and Aelle appears near the bottom of the published info from Columbus (still good stuff, but needs to be considered to determine the price).

Prelude in PRX trumps them both.
