Refurbed Garmin or New Garmin
I'm still debating and being a cheap ass. I finally decided to buy a Garmin 800, but see that I can get a refurbished unit for ~ $295.
Last year I bought a refurbished Nikon DSLR and was thrilled with the "Brand New" feel and function. Do you think I can expect the same from Garmin?

Or buy a brand new one for $30 more:

Thanks for the reply. I'm aware of the $30 difference between new or refurbished but the refurbished unit I'm looking at comes with the heart rate belt and sensor. It's actually $379 for the new unit I'm considering. So $80 difference. I'm trying to work with a very tight budget.

I'd go with the refurb if you want the 800, or if you want to save more go for the 500.

I have an older Edge 305 that I'm still using, but have been enamored by the mapping functions of the 800. So, I don't think the 500 is enough of incentive to jump from the old fugly gray screen of the 305. If I felt confident in the refurb I'd just pull the trigger now.

I will get a 510 with the new heart rate monitor, and the new cadence and speed sensor (if you want to splurge now or late).

I would go with a refurb 500 or a new 510 and get the new Garmin magnetless speed and cadence sensors. Also add the Garmin HRM.

I would have no hesitation buying a refurb unit. I've had good luck going that route over the years on consumer electronics. Refurbished can mean everything from factory warranty repair to returned stock. It carries the traditional warranty, in most all cases, so the risk to you is nill. Add to that, you save lots of money.

I have the garmin edge 200 and I was wondering if I upgraded to a unit that has the maps on it would it still fit the device for the edge 200 on the handlebar?

When something is sold as factory refurbished that unit was physically inspected and tested and passed so it should not be an issue, in fact if you look at it this way that unit was checked and passed, units coming off an assembly line are not checked a unit is randomly pulled and inspected to make sure specs are meeting requirements.
Something labeled refurbished does not mean it was bad either it may have been returned for any reason, but it does have to be checked once returned and if it passes it gets the label refurbished.
They all carry the same factory warranty so save some $

Just pulled the trigger on the 800 refurbished unit. It says it comes with the SD card city maps too. I'm looking forward to using it.
