Please recommend a replacement rear wheel

700 c. runs 37 or 38 at rear. want a shimano hub, as the bike is used for general use and some commuting. sturdy. my old wheel spokes are now cracking and not worth fixing.

thanks

Velocity A23? They have wheelsets laced to 105 and Ultegra hubs at Velomine. Not sure about single wheels.

How much do you weigh? Velocity Dyad, DeepV, or A23, laced to Shimano 105 hubs, 32 or 36 spokes, will work for most people. If you're pushing 400, then you'll want 36-40 spokes, DeepV or Dyad with a hub available in those drillings.

I'm 285 and run a 36h Velocity Deep V in the rear with absolutely no issues for 2 years. This is a daily commuter, rain or shine in sandy Florida conditions. No issues with the hub at all. In fact, I was hit by a car in November, had to replace a lot of stuff, but that wheel stayed true.

Right now i am still in the 200's. think some kind of velocity rim with 32-36 spokes will work.

Not a Shimano hub, the 40H Wheelmaster hub is a copy of a Phil Wood, even comes apart with a 5mm allen key like a Phil Wood.

I have these hubs on my commuter bikes and our tandem.

IF this is a hybrid, you want a hub spaced for 135mm, not 130mm like the road hubs mentioned.

You say your weight is in the 200's.
Which 200's? There could be almost 50% variance and fit that category.
I's use 250 as a dividing line between 32 & 36 spokes.
Quality of the build is most important.

For a good "meat & potatoes" wheel at lower cost, I'd recommend-
Sun Rim CR-18, Deore hub, 36 double butted spokes & brass nipples.
IF you build it yourself, use a thinner spoke on the NDS.

if you close to 200-225, you can pretty much pick your wheel and hub. I was running 24 on the back at that weight and had no issues. for your needs, I would think anything running 32 would be plenty.

I have an Alex Adventurer, 36 spoke, laced to a Shimano Deore Hub, built by my LBS as a warrantee replacement. It's been bulletproof for the last 7 years............ never touched since new! Specialized Crosstrail Sport.

Whatever you do, get handmade. They'll be considerably stronger than most any machine made wheel.
