Peugeot Frame Identification?

I just bought a Peugeot 12 speed, great condition, working shimano components, and gravel tires for $60! However, I have no idea what specific frame this is, I just wanted a vintage steel bike. There's a sticker on the bottom bracket that gives a serial number. Some of it is incomprehensible though. Serial number is PHF6**57 5692096 the ** being the ones that have been worn out.

Any idea what frame this is? Rides smoooooth!

I am no expert but I believe PHF6 is the model designation. Tell us a bit more about it, do the Shimano components have any model names? It has gravel tires but what size? 27” or maybe 26”? Side pull brakes or cantilevers?

Hello Mike and welcome to the forum!

There are Peugeot bicycle catalogue archives here.

You will be able to look up your PHF6 and read its specifications and model year.

It looks basically like a Corbier, 84-85ish on the year range.

It's the equivalent of a P6 (PHF6 is likely the model#), so only one bike lower in the rungs and that was the P4. While I say that, I personally feel The P4 - P10 bikes rode better than a lot of other brand's mid-level bikes.

Based on the paper sticker, it should be a lugless Peugeot P6 Iseran. Shimano components would place it circa 1985-1987. There should be a serial number stamped into the frame starting with either a 'B' or a 'Y'. That number will tell us the month and year of manufacture.

Edit: Based on the recently added photo, it's 1986-1987.

I was sitting here asking myself, "how the hell would he be able to date the components?" then I noticed the upturn on the shift levers. Z-series. Gotcha.

The engraved serial number on the bottom bracket says Y706 17171.

The frame was manufactured during June 1987, so it's a 1987 Peugeot P6 Iseran., 10th in the 11 model adult lightweight line,

Thank you! For a cheap bike it rides smoother then some of my friend's modern mid-range Fuji aluminum bikes. I gave it to someone as a gift so he can start cycling with me and my buddies!
