Interested in a Spring vintage bike swap in Chicagoland?

I'm trying to gauge interest in a small vintage bike swap in the Chicago area (Evanston, to be precise), probably in late March or early April. To that end, I put together small Google Form questionnaire about people's preferences:

https://goo.gl/forms/cOszIh7O5CHBmjtc2

Please take a whack at it if you might be interested...

Thanks,

Skip

Most definitely. I'd stop in Bucktown and see @elguicho, too.

Yes, indoor. As someone else mentioned, a bike corral would take up a bunch of space. Hopefully the weather cooperates so we can keep them outside. I'll talk to Alex about alternatives if that doesn't happen.

To give people an idea what the space is like, here's a snap from a Street View. Alex's shop is on the left. It's narrow, but runs well back and wraps around the white building. The front of the place on the right is the space for the swap. We'll be cozy. If the weather cooperates, we can park/lock bikes and frames people want to sell out front. If not, I'll see what I can work out.

A quick update. I've settled on the weekend of April 6/7 as the most likely date(s) for the swap. I unfortunately lost my original location and am scouting around for another one. Hope to have something firmed up soon.

If we were closer to summer, I'd just opt for my backyard. It looks like this right now though. Those little bumps in the center are Snowhenge. They started out in mid-January and have been only slowly disappearing since...

I know this is far from the desired location, but I have 1.5 acres in the country surrounded by corn fields way west of the city, but technically considered a Chicago suburb. It's between Paw Paw and Earlville on the county line between Lee and DeKalb counties. You're welcome to have it here. Very safe with no neighbors, and miles of flat country roads if you want to take a ride.

I know the preference is closer to Chicago, so if it won't work out for this event, consider it for one in the future.

Thanks, @76SLT. I am selfishly looking for something more like walkable for myself. That looks like an interesting place for a more summer-ish get together. Perhaps we'll see you at @iab's Spring Classic in Crystal Lake on April 27?

Do you have more info on the Spring Classic in April? I wasn't aware of that one.

I'm sure David will post (if he hasn't already), but typically I think we meet at 8:30 at the Main Beach partking lot (across from Crystal Lake proper) with a push off around 9:00 (don't hold me to those times though). The course is about 30-35 miles around the countryside around Crystal Lake, with lunch of fish tacos at Taqueria Las Cumbres in downtown CL. You could PM David for the complete, accurate details instead of relying on my always hazy memory. (I am not one of these folks who remembers what tubulars he was riding in 1973 and how many flats he got!)

I remember it now, in fact I was going to try to go but had to work a full day. I'm going to try and make it this year.

OK, I have a venue, my backyard and garage. And a date, April 13, a week later than originally planned to improve the weather odds slightly. Let's figure 9:00-ish to whenever. I gave up trying to get people to respond or to park district venues which had more restrictions than I could deal with in a short time frame. The best forecast I can find is for temps in April to be about normal or perhaps a bit higher than normal, and for precipitation chances to be about normal. So figure on temps in the 50s and some chance of April showers (bringing May flowers, of course). I can probably find a space heater to take the chill off the garage. With the winter we are just emerging from, 50s and sprinkles sounds pretty awesome to me.

I have a couple tables and several bike stands. I don't know if I can scrounge up any sort of free-standing canopy/tent by the 13th, but will try. If you can bring anything which might be useful, let me know. I will provide coffee and some donut-shaped objects to help folks wake up. I'll make sure the propane tank on the grill is full as well if people want to burn something for lunch. There are plenty of places nearby to order from as well. Though it's modest in size and equipment, my little basement lair will be available for people wanting to turn a wrench. And should, mirabile dictu, the weather be totally awesome, an afternoon ride isn't entirely out of the question.

You need to RSVP (email or PM is fine) so I get an idea if I'm going to hang out with three peeps or thirty. I'll respond (off-list) with my address (near downtown Evanston, IL).

In, barring unforeseen disaster or some strange woman knocking on my door. OK, that's redundant.

UPDATE:
Out, conflicts with the Bourbon and Tobacco Tour in Kentucky, which I've already signed up for.

Sorry, but you know how it is..... there's bourbon.
