As mentioned before, brew is out of my wheelhouse, I'm almost exclusively espresso, but if I were to look for a brew grinder, I probably would start with Baratza and then look at a couple other companies that specialize in grinders and have a good reputation. Eureka is a brand that immediately springs to mind.
The buy-out wouldn't make me avoid Baratza at this point - just something interesting to keep an eye on, I guess. And at the kind of price point that we're talking about, repairable shouldn't be a problem, but I don't know that "crazy durable" is on the table.
I've read up on the Ode a little, and it seems that some people aren't thrilled with some of the aspects. By design, it'll only grind so fine, and some people feel that it's not fine enough for their brew methods (and we're not talking espresso); there's talk of a different burr set that'll grind finer, but that's something either down the line or bought separately at a not-insignificant cost. Here's a pretty thorough James Hoffman video review -
Frankly, out of the box and at $300, it sounds a little... compromised. Adding $150 burrs might make it stellar, but then you're in the $500 price bracket. At that point, the Eureka Brew Pro starts looking attractive - https://www.wholelattelove.com/colle...rinder-in-blue

As for crazy durable - if replacement parts are available it should be able to be kept going pretty much indefinitely, yes? That's sort of where I was going - would like it to be able to keep going for 10+ years. Is there a reason it wouldn't? Meaning as opposed to cheap consumer just that looks pretty and burns out and is replaced over and over.

Thanks. Yeah, I remember you saying about not using brew, but figured your feedback on Baratza as a brand would be helpful (especially in light of a buyout). Will probably get the Vario.

We've had enough sunshine and above freezing temps over the last few days that I decided to take the road bike out for a short spin. Quite windy, but not as bad as I'd thought. My fitness was also not as bad as I though it'd be, given my relatively small amount of saddle time recently. As the temp edged up to 40°, though, my hands got too hot, so I had to peel off my gloves and go barehanded; I'm sure Bah Humbug can empathize.

Finally got around to putting properly sized bars and stem (hopefully properly sized, cuz I don't wanna buy one) on the Schwinn. Bar tape to come after test ride.

Apparently in 1975 Russia, only a few of the kids that toured had bar tape.

Feel free to kick off a conspiracy theory based on this fact.
But then you'd have to warm it up before injection. hmmm...

These RNA vaccines are packaged in lipid microparticles, which are unstable at anything but very low temperatures. The packaging enables the RNA to avoid degradation in the tissue after injection and get into the cells where it is transcribed into antibodies.
