I wouldn't even let my wife ride my main bikes
Old bikes in the garage, I might lend out

When our son from Colorado visits he rides one of my bikes as we both use Look Keos. This past summer he rode my Cannondale SuperSix with SRAM Red and Boyd wheels. I ended up giving him that bike, took it out to CO in October. I have had to downsize a number of bikes the past 2-3 years, actually gifted two Trek Project One Madones; to my brother and a cycling buddy.

I have two old school mountain bikes (Gary Fisher Joshua and a Nuke Proof) that family/friends can borrow, but I won't lend out my carbon Lamere. Too risky.

Only one person would qualify, my youngest daughter. I am building a Pinarello for her.

The boys have moved on, but they can use one of the Bianchi's when they are here. I've let one other friend ride the Veloce.
As to tools, a buddy commented to me when I borrowed a valve spring compressor to use on a vw engine I was rebuilding "if you need to borrow the same tool more than once, it means you should buy the tool".
Yes, I now own a valve spring compressor....

My mtn bike: Yes, I'd let just about anyone borrow it.
My LeMond: Yes to most people who knew how to ride a bike.
My Fuji: Yes, to experienced riders and both my kids.
My Specialized: Basically NO to everyone.

I would let my Kid try the bike when I'm watching but I don't think I'd like to see my prize Bianchi Pista outside Dairy Queen leaning against a Bench.
The Bianchi needs constant attention and the chain tensioned and it has only one brake, so I doubt I would let a Friend use it.
Our neighborhood just formed and no one really is close to anyone.
One new neighbor . seems to constantly borrow my tools and it starts to get annoying. (When I was younger I worked on Cars a lot and still do maintenance.)
I'm polite to him, but I think he's really crossing the line.
And I'm curious, does anyone else have a neighbor like him?

I possess no bikes that are extremely valuable or rare. But I have some good neighborhood kids that I let shoot hoops in my driveway whenever they want. Were they to inquire about those metal cages and leather straps on the pedals of my 40 year old bike boom ride, I'd certainly explain the bike and why I own it to them and if they wanted to take it for a spin around the 'hood, I'd allow that. My tail bike I'd give to the right person so if anyone simply wanted to borrow it I can't see myself saying no. My Domane I would only loan to someone I knew would take reasonable care of it or be good with any repairs or replacements they were responsible for.

My brother and I have taken spins on each others bikes. But we ride different sizes, so they're short rides.
Otherwise, I don't know anyone who would ask.

No, all are fitted to me. Wife and kids have their own. None are ever lended out.

I have more bikes than I can ride, so I'm willing to let persons (vetted BF.net members) that would appreciate them the opportunity to ride them if they should so desire.
BUT The 'problem' is that I've fitted then to MY tastes, and others might not like my preferences. All are vintage lugged steel rides in 57/58cm or 23" frame size, all have been equipped with friction-shift SunTour barcons. Some are double- and some are triple cranks... all have six speed freewheels. All have hard leather saddles. The triple-crank bikes are outfitted with fenders. My gearing choices are for what you'd expect in the glacially-scoured (flat) lower Great Lakes., although a GAP/C&O or other such regional ride is not out of the question as I have other freewheels that can be fitted. Look at the bikes listed in my signature, and you'll see what I mean... AND I have sets of vintage handlebar/seat/panniers bags that are fully serviceable (mostly vintage Cannondale)...
So if riding/touring around Lake Erie is on your bucket list, I can help!
