Ok, so after all of this "drama" I finally struck a deal on a bike.
And I did end up going for the 2005 specialized roubaix comp triple.
And no I didn't give the guy grief to the point where he wanted to drive me out of the store and gladly lose the sale.
Funny thing, after all the research on different bikes and going to almost every store in the nyc area, I ended up going back to the same store near my house...Sheepshead cyclery in brooklyn. I walked right in saturday morning and quickly said hi to Allen (the store shop owner) and immediately walked in the back where he keeps his high end stuff. There wasn't any stuff about "look but don't touch" because he saw on my face in a split second that I wanted to do some business. LOL he let me do push ups with the expensive bikes cause he knew I was serious about buying something. There was a little bit of a conflict concerning fit though. He was strict in saying that I should have a 52cm and not a 54. He was strict in that because he wants to do a proper measurement for all his customers regardless what they feel like what they want. He knew that some guys don't like to feel like they are that small so they buy a size too big. But after test riding the 54cm roubaix elite he had hanging up on the wall I could understand what he meant. I was too stretched out on the 54cm and after a couple of hours riding I could see myself having neck and back pains. So I will go for the 52cm.
I guess I will have to accept that I'm a midget.
For the 2005 specialized comp triple hes letting me have it for (including tax) $2080.00 US dollars.
He is even going to see if he can upgrade it to a 10 speed without uping the price too much.
I for one am happy with the deal.
I pick up the bike next week.

Good work on the deal and glad you finally pulled the trigger. Sounds like you picked a decent shop too.
Um so what wheels did you get?

Definately pay the extra to get a ten speed. I think yiu´ll be glad you downsized, allways buy racer on the small side.

Yes if you shift the rear casette you´ll have to shift the shifters (!) but you´ll get improved ergonomics from the ten speed STI (have both old an new). You can shift the crankset without shifting anything else.

No wonder this board is so dangerous. Stalker doesn't even have wheels on the bike yet and you're clocking him up for more upgrades.

Wait a minute - are you saying the bike comes standard with triple crank and 9-sp cassette? If that's so, why are you guys suggesting Stalker should go 10-sp? What useful gear-inch span is gained going from 27 to 30 speeds?
What am I missing?

its a 9 speed. Some people say go for the 10 speed definately why would they say that? I mean, I could avoid having to upgrade in the future if I just get the 10 speed now?

They want you to get 10spd because it shifts better. But more importantly, they want you to get 10spd because its one higher than 9spd
9spd is absolutely nothing to sneeze at. You'll be fine with it.
