Drop Weight and Climb Like a Pro, Shocking Pic Attatched
Ran across this pic of Rasmussen, he looks scary thin. I always thought that Tyler Hamilton looked like a refuge camp POW but this is down right shocking.

Here's Ullrich and Hamilton. I think it would be interesting to see their physique prior to the tour and compare it to where they are at the end.

If that is what it takes to be fast, give me slow any day. I'm 6'1" and around 194 lbs, 175 would be about as light as I ever think I would want to be. My baseline target is around 185 lbs. Since biking regularly at the end of summer, my cardio fitness as improved, my legs and back feel stronger, but my upper body (chest/arms) seems weaker. I guess time to hit the weights thish Winter. Going fast up hills is ok, but overall fitness is much more important.

What is 23, 21, 24?
Nope it is Miss Ethiopia's measurements (or appearantly also the Pro Climber's measurements)

what do you guys expect? its called "being on the razor", read Armstrong's second book, it goes into great detail about it
many many sports cause massive and sometimes irrepairable damage to one's body, is this really shocking?
its all about the sacrifice and effort, everything has its costs, buring up 6-10,000 cals in a long day of a climbing stage isnt a joke, its right at the human limit of food digestion and absorption........they eat a massive amount of food

ive been close to the beginning of the edge of the razor, and while it feels great to ride like that, its easy to get sick, walking is painful, and it takes an awful lot of work just to stay anywhere near there
just finished eating dinner and it was 1/2lb of chicken, 3/4lb of pasta, sauce, garlic bread, salad, and mt dew, and I could eat more easily.........its an expensive chore when it gets right down to it sometimes

other sports do the same
not uncommon for women in really hard aerobic sports to stop menstruating, and it can make them sterile, many sports have an ugly side rarely talked about or seen much

If I'm not mistaken, boxers trying to make weight do more punishment to their bodies than just about any other athlete. Massively dehydrating themselves, then rapidly rehydrating to be in condition to fight the next day. Ridiculous.

In general, Track and Field athletes look good, female ice skaters look good, tri-athletes look good. Even the female pro cyclists do not look that emaciated.

I am going to go out on a limb and say I think Rasmussen will win the TDF in the next 3 years. Basso or Ullrich this year, Basso or Rasmussen next year. All he needs is a good descent team to support him, a little more strategery ( ) and not fall off his bike in TTs. He has impressed me the past two tours and I think he can more than make up for his deficits in the mountains. There! I am on the record. BTW, my wife (with her woman's intuition) agrees with me.
