Pics from the Tokyo handbuilt bicycle show
I was sent this link and it certainly delivers.
there is a healthy mix of classic and modern within the album.

Thanks! I wanted to see pics from this. Especially of the Grand Bois and Toei show bikes.
Looks like Grand Bois is prototyping a narrow-wide 1x chainring. I don't love the look of it. A bit too involved.

hanks. Good stuff, nice details. I like the lever front derailleurs, the Cyclo style rear derailleurs. There is a white frame with a ramped cable attachment. I don't know what that is for, but interesting.
And I'm only on page one.
Page 2, Hirose. More good stuff.
I see Mr. Hirose is in a wheelchair.

Are those all current builds and some just used vintage components? Those are some very cool bikes regardless.

You gotta watch the promotional video for the GOKISO hub. It somehow paired modern animation and video quality with the style and sound effects of 1983.

Nice esoteric bikes,.....but frankly, I was expecting to see something like bikes with handlebars wrapped in eel skin and twisted wire.....just like samurai sword handles......

That's a good set of photos. Of course it's easy for anyone to say "But there really have to be photos of XYZ as well"; so I'll say it:
There really have to be photos of the Cherubim umbrellas.
(No kidding. Well, the rain-protecting parts aren't by Cherubim, but the shaft [is it called?] and handle are.)
The latter are Hirose originals. The bikes he shows usually have just five or six sprockets (though of course the one you see here with this derailleur is an exception).
Yes, as he was during the same event last year.
This show is always worth going to. This year, it moved from a cramped place in very central Tokyo to a much more spacious one in a southern suburb. Last year and the year before, the bike parking lot was crowded and very interesting. This year it was almost deserted. Most people must have come by train or car. I found this rather depressing, especially as the weather was excellent as I pedalled there and back.

I did a quick Google search on these hubs....wheels with the GOKISO hubs are retailing at a mere $8000.

Couple things jumped out at me. One was the saddle with the telescopic rain guard. Very neat, never saw anything like that before. The other was a yellow bike with an "inboard" RD. The bracket was bowed out away from the frame the the RD mounted on the inside of the unit, effectively shielding it from bumps, etc. Creative.
Thanks for sharing!

For that I hope it comes with a cleaning tool -- those things look difficult to keep clean.
