Bikes: Wow, where to start? A collection of 1980's and early 90's road, touring, and MTBs from the likes of Trek, Schwinn, Cannondale, Fuji, Miyata, Univega, Panasonic, and GT. It has gotten rather out of control.

Shame about the rear mech replacement but if you're in the Seattle area this got posted this hour. $200 Miyata Pro. 50cm. Slap a Cyclone on that and go to town.

Here are pics of some of my Miyatas:
610, 86. Lots of the original bits, but changed to bar end shifters.
Elevation 300, 91. Most bits changed, bike was a junker when I got it.
Triple Cross, 89. Again, not too much original. Pieced together from things in my bin...almost nothing matches. Pedals are mismatched, one Shimano thumb shifter, one Suntour. Still, one of my favourite rides.

'80 Miyata 1000 neo-retro dura ace 7700 w/ultegra compact - recent rebuild. rear cold set to 130 for the dura ace/open pro wheelset, and seat tube bottle braze ons because they should have been there in the first place(by '84 they had em). I was lucky to find a 63cm, in a sense, when I did. and back in the day when I started riding at 6'-1", you rode a bigger frame for the longer top tube, hence, you got the taller headtube at the same time. with a drop bar, that stem would sit lower and be shorter but the position of that mustache bar feels best for casual crusing hight like this. finding the frame in the orig blue available took...years.

I just made an album and posted 2 pics of my Miyata 610. Slowly but surely I'm changing this and that: Last change is a riser stem, Brooks handlebar tape and a Brooks saddle.

what to do with a corroded top tube
Turn it into a travel bike with S&S couplers and a new powder coat, thanks to Bilenky Cycle. My 1989 miyata 1400 had that problematic cable through the top tube which opened up the frame to lots of corrosion. Either turn it into a lawn ornament or repair. i'm happy with the results.

Well, I guess I'm finally part of the cult now too. For years I've kept and eye out locally for a nice high end Miyata. Always seemed to miss out on the few that showed up. Then yesterday I drove to a town about an hour away to pick up my first Colnago Super. Got home with it and saw a new local ad for a Miyata 914 SE back up just where I had been. Great price too. I contacted the seller this morning and got even luckier. He was coming down to my area this afternoon and agreed to bring the bike. Needless to say, it's now sitting in my house. Gave it a quick going over and all seems pretty well. Still sporting all the original Tricolor 600 parts and has the appearance of a bike that was well taken care of. Some honest wear in the paint but nothing bad at all. Seems really well made and I'm excited to get my hands on it. Only real issue is a sticky rear brake. The caliper looks pretty good but I'll clean, degrease, and then relube it. I'll also flush the housing with some solvent to see if that's the issue. It does feel like a gummy housing to me. Hopefully I'll have this sorted out enough to test it Sunday. I pretty sure this is a 1991 and it's a 56cm bike. Sporting the popular turbo saddle but they really don't work for me so that will be replaced.
Here's one quick pic of it as I got it. 22 lbs 9 ozs as pictured. Close to the catalog spec.
Excited to finally get a Miyata!!!!
I think this is a modern 130/110 spaced frame. If so I may try and set it up with some modern wheels, just need to refresh myself on the 7 speed cassette and any spacers. The original hubs are feeling great though so the stock wheels may work just fine.

Under the matte black is an 84 Miyata 1000
only a few rides so far. But seems like a nice lugged frame.
I added a set of bottle bosses and mid fork rack mounts. For future use.

WOW, that's a 912?! I have an 81 Commuter 3 speed and the frame looks just like that. Same decals on the seat tube as well. I figured my frame was bottom of the barrel since it was a 3 speed.

Seems like most of the Miyata frames were about the same quality. My 912 has a hi-ten fork. Being the higher-end model, I figured that it would be chromoly. Probably, the major difference is how they were equipped. I do really like the color and understated decals. There are some hills where I live. So, my 912 is now a 920. I have 10 cogs on my freehub.

Those Miyata paint jobs are amazingly durable. Here’s my ‘79 912 with original frame paint (I purchased it new), having been ridden through my son’s high school years in The Hague, so transport by moving van three times across continents and oceans, and a few upgrades over 41 years. Admittedly, fork was powder-coated after Gugificazione!
And my daughter’s ‘85 ‘312, after passing through at least three owners and a few cross country moves:

I considered the touch up route as this paint job has its share of ugly spots - thoroughly rusted cable guides, big rusty section under the BB shell, seat stay caps, and other places - but I did that with my Ironman. This bike gives me a great opportunity to start fresh with a color that I really want. I'm not all that fond of the black/pink combo here. I had nine color samples here from the supplier, and chose a great color. I am excited for this build.

Surprisingly still 27x1-1/8”. Yes, that is a Dura-Ace crankset that I had in my stash that fit the existing BB nicely. And her Brooks Team Pro dates back to when I was doing the first round of upgrades to the 912 in its first few years.
