Just found out about this when I went to look for information on the Miele hierarchy. I am still very new to the world of C&V. I learned a lot from mytenspeeds.com but I know there was still a lot more that I could have learned from the site. I hope to see the content back on-line soon. This is especially hard for us Canadians. Randy's content on Canadian-made and made elsewhere but "sold in Canada" was invaluable.

randyjawa I was on a BF hiatus from March until recently so I missed this. I will add to the thanks for the site! I learned a ton, removed allot of stubborn fixed bb cups due to your lag bolt and washers tip and found my greatest garage sale find ever by "just asking" and I got a nice Peugeot pantographed crank from you. Thanks and I hope the new owner is able to get things back on line.

Never really used the site much as I was always a mountain biker and recently got into vintage road bikes (starting last summer), but FYI I'm making an attempt to retrieve the data off the Wayback Machine using a Ruby script for free online. It has retrieved about 900 of almost 7000 files so far (likely much more by the time you're reading this), so cross your fingers

Finished overnight, made a ZIP (as-is) of the My_TenSpeeds_1 folder (700mb in size), and tossed it online. The downloader stripped the links to archive.org so they should work on any web space (or locally).
I know there's a lot of broken/missing images, but the content seems to be there for the links I've clicked.
I will be slowly trying to fix things (header images, linked to e-mail address that I'm sure are no longer valid, etc) to get it back to it's prior state - knowing that a lot of images will not be recoverable from this archive.

I also haven't yet done anything else with cycle.haus web site, so no need to check that out just yet LOL

Oh, also randyjawa if you ever kept a backup of all the images, at least, that might help too. If they're named the same, I can figure out where they slot in on the web site by matching it up and try to get them active again.
I know it's likely too late now, but I'm surprised the web host that the new owner used didn't have a previous backup they could assist in restoring it to. Most hosts keep regular backups in case of drive failure or otherwise..
Unfortunately Googling the image names themselves is also coming up with nothing, not cached anywhere. That's too bad!

No way I'll track that down.
In any case, all the broken images that I've seen just simply link to the full size image - and if not there, it just returns a standard 404 error. I don't see any scripts in any of the pages/files I've seen so far. Haven't had a chance to go through much, as of yet though.

Do you know on which page?
I can't fix it (there's HUNDREDS of pages) if I don't know where it is.
I'm guessing it's reporting false positives (why I never run AV software, most of it is garbage), but would be curious what it thinks it's finding.

Fairly certain it's a false positive.
There's JavaScript on the page, but it's just for the menu images to change when you hover mouse over it (very common).
Every link goes directly to an HTML or JPG file directly and calls no other scripts.
I see no harmful code in there, at all. Unsure what anti-virus would be warning about unless it's due to the broken images? But that's all over the page due to lack of images in the Wayback Machine backup, and nothing I can do about that unless I remove all code related to all broken images (rather try to recover the images and have them work before resorting to that).

The error AVG (or others) are giving would also help try and figure out why they think there's harmful code on the page.

Perhaps I should build another web site. What would I call it and what would it include? I am almost serious about this but, sadly, the cost makes it a foolish venture. I used to get millions of hits and could not generate enough money to cover provider fees.

Randy, first of all thank you for putting up and maintaining your website for so long! I spent a lot of time learning from it and it taught me quite a bit about vintage bicycles. I would suggest that you write a book with pictures on different ten speeds, how to buy them, how to restore them, what to look for. I know I would buy your book.

I don't know anything about making and hosting websites. But I had a blog for several years in which I paid for the url. That was something like $10 a year. What fees were you paying for the website and would using a blog (wordpress, for example) help you avoid them?

In truth, I do not and never did know much about making a web site. MY "TEN SPEEDS" was a bit of a fluke.

I did think about making/publishing another website but decided against it. I was paying $160.00 US per year for the website server host. I was getting hundreds of thousands of hits a month. But, after a while, I got tired of paying (retired and fixed, actually broken, income) so I sold when someone offered to purchase. I wish I had not done that!

Anyway, Google Vintage Life Cycles if you want to see my first effort a making a website.

I have a blog , mainly just because I like to write stuff down . It is sort of a journal for me. I use the Wordpress free version and learning my way through it. It is intuitive and I like that. My daughter has offered to help me with a web site but it sounds like too much work and I don’t want to pay to maintain it. Like you , I am semi retired now although I still keep my shop for some income I am in the “learn to live on less” mode of life. joesvintageroadbikes.wordpress
