The 2009 Ascutney/Okemo Double...Ouch...w/ Lots O' Pics...
I hate this ride. 64 miles with 8100 ft of climbing. Mostly in two 3.7 mile 11 – 12% climbs...
The steeps got to me after a while, even with a 26/34 low gear...
Did great up Mt. Ascutney and felt great, 12 watts off race power with some to spare. But it was the beginning of the ride...
Mt. Ascutney was in pretty good shape (road is still closed). Lots of debris in the road so had to descend carefully...
Did Tempo up Tyson Rd and still felt pretty good...
Cracked about 2.5 miles up Okemo Mountain but struggled on. There was still snow on the road and had to stop and walk through the snow twice. There is a washout with mud across the road that I was able to ride over...
It was sunny and hot. Not quite used to the heat yet. I got a pretty good sunburn with a nice stripe on the bald spot...
What a beautiful day...
Mt. Ascutney in the windshield. My old nemesis. Stills gives me butterflies when I see it...
Okemo from the top of Ascutney. Where I am going...
Stratton Mountain is somewhere in the morning haze...

Been a long time since I rode those roads. Can't believe how open from snow they are already, but after being in VT this winter, I am not surprised. Good climbs...

Nice pics, I'm thinking about doing the Killington/Okemo loop. Start/end in Rutland.
It's something like 62 miles, I'm not 100% on the total elevation change.

XTR RD and I switch between a 12/26 cassette for sane riding and 11/34 for the big hills (Ascutney/Okemo/Whiteface/Equinox/Washington)...
I would love to climb out west. Maybe when the kids get older....
I hear the climbs are not as steep but go on forever...
I would like to see how I would handle climbing for 15 + miles...
The altitude may kill me though...
