What drop downs to buy?
Hi all, I've decided I want to buy some drop down handle bars, I'm currently doing mainly 60-80 mile routes with lots of climbs and descents and I'm finding my current flat bars uncomfortable on my large (56.5cm) sirrus comp 2008.
Of what I've found the 3t Ergonova Pro Alloy Handlebars looks best from my budget, does anyone have any views on fitting the 46cm version or does anyone have any other drop down suggestions?
BTW I'm 6'2" tall with a shoulder measurement of 47.5cm.

I assume you have picked out new/used brake/shift levers compatible with your drivetrain ?

I'm riding those bars. They are a bit narrower than other bars I've used of the same size. It seems like the rated size is where they flare outward (slightly) in the drops.
They're ok, but I'm not gaga over them. I will switch to carbon wing bars eventually.

Why not just use Back-Up Barz? j/k
You will need shift/brake levers as stated above. You also may need a new stem depending on what you have now. Just another thing to point out, is your bike geometry something that will be comfortable with drop bars or will you still be too upright/short?

to expand on what adclark is saying - the geometry of your hybrid might have you sitting too far upright, which would make getting into the drops awkward - requiring too much of a bend at the waist. might need a different length stem at least. Also, you will need shift/brake levers and new cables, which will cost some money. It might be better to sell the hybrid and get an entry level road bike.
if you end up doing this, there are three major bar types, and infinite brand choices:
a traditional-bend bar like the 3T Rotundo
a compact bend bar like the FSA Compact line
an ergo bend bar like....every ergo bend bar.

I looked into converting my Sirrus to drops and decided to sell it instead. It's not as easy as just swapping out the bar and brakes/shifters. There's plenty of information in the hybrid forum here, start with that.

I'd say just get whatever generic drop bar is available cheaply, throw it on and ride it. No matter what you buy, you'll most likely want something different down the road, so minimize your initial outlay until you have a good handle on what you REALLY want.

These bars are decent bars for the price and they come in a 46, not the most expensive bar on the market, if you want that then try others, but see: https://www.jensonusa.com/store/produ...%20-%2026%2040 I have the silver version on one of my bikes for many years and they work just like bars are intended to work, and their actually lighter then the ones you're looking at.

Ok looks like the cost inhibits doing this, I understood the shifters were expensive but finding a cheap second hand pair is almost impossible, I also realised I'd have to replace the crankset on my sirrus adding more cost!#
I will keep this option in mind but I think it will be easier if I just buy a second hand racing bike instead!
This way I will have more of an idea of the type of bars/bike setup I need. Cycle shops really should allow you to rent bikes for a day and allow you to do a 60 mile ride, I would have made a more informed choice back in 2008 (now too)!
