What is the name of the part that holds the end of the brake inner on a road bike ?

I have managed to loose the little barell with the hole in that sits in the brake lever of a Shimano lever . I thought I may be able to get one on eBay but what ever search term I put in I can't find what it's called. Can anyone help with the name or link me to where I can buy a replacement it's the the thing that the inner of the brake cable threads in to

The small barrel you can see here is what I need

If you talking about the small barrel located in the brake lever that is accessed from the front when fitting a new inner your best bet would be to pop down your lbs you can't be the first person to lose this bit....sorry can't help you with a name but I've never seen them for sale

They were my first thoughts but reread the post it's a road brake lever so it's either a ferrule(end cap) or the more likely small cylinder in the brake lever

Yes that's the piece I mean I'm from the UK so was hoping to find one for sale. Seems like it's not a piece you find everyday though thanks for your help

I believe what you are looking for is called the cable hook unit by Shimano. See #4 here: https://bike.shimano.com/media/techdo...9830609254.pdf

I know there has been plenty of that going on here lately, but I think you are a little quick to jump to that conclusion here.

The little thing inside the brake lever that the cable feeds through is called the "cable stop". That's what we called it in shops years ago. That part may be hard to source unless you can get it directly from Shimano or one of their parts distributors.

From that link above it appears that Shimano calls that stop and the washers that go with it the cable hook unit. What you might do is go to your local shop and ask them if they have an old Shimano brake lever you can pick a part from.

regardless of what it's called, it functions as a clevis.

Was doing some maintenance took out a old cable and it was corroded so when the cable came out that part came out with it .I put it in a box of other bits I was working on and my 15 month daughter came out and grabbed the box and tipped it over . Bits went everywhere but managed to find all but that part. But thanks to help on here I've now ordered it.

I never knew it could come out. Thanks to your post, I'll be more careful when changing cables from now on.

It has been a long time since I've worked on one that uses the clevis (cable hook), but if memory serves, it fits into a u-shaped cradle. I believe also that the cradle is slightly curved inward at the top, which serves to allow the clevis to snap into place and be retained by the cradle. So, in usual maintenance, it should stay put. It could be that the corrosion the OP experienced caused the cable and clevis to bind with more friction than is normal, thus pulling the clevis out of place.

Yes everything you said is correct fits in to a cradle. Just my luck for something that usually doesn't come out to fall out and me to loose oh well only cost a few pounds . And I'll know to be careful next time I change it .joined here to find out what it was called so it's allowed me to find this friendly place so not all bad

Is that the Brand of brake lever and Model you own or just a picture off the web?.

I suggest looking for a New Pair of brake levers, Complete.

since you are shopping online

instead of presenting your issue in person, to a Bike mechanic in a shop.

Why would you buy a pair of new brake levers when a replacement cable hook will cost in the region of ten bucks?

I didn't know what you had at the time you posted, not that it mattered a lot as the part is the same for the various product lines, but here are the links for the two Tourney-level levers, ST-070 and ST-073, in case you need further help with how it goes back together or for future reference: https://si.shimano.com/php/download.p...-A070-3428.pdf https://si.shimano.com/php/download.p...-A073-3598.pdf
