Zydeco ain't bad once you've got the right mix of beverages in you.

Here are my choices, so far (ebay):

Weinmann centerpulls- I don't love centerpulls and there are extra hangers and such, which most sets don't seem to include. I'd have to scrounge around for those too.

Tektro 559 sidepulls- modern middle of the road stuff is probably better than 40 year old good stuff, but.....still....Tektro on a vintage bike?

That's about it. Damn long reach.....

I'm not sure if bblair's question was answered in this whole theoretical debate over longer-reach brakes used in the back, but for his benefit, I'm cross-posting a list I made of long-reach dual-pivots - both nutted and recessed:

Nutted:
Tektro R559: 55-73mm
Tektro 800A: 61-78mm
Generic (unknown): 61-79mm
Tektro 900A: 72-92mm
Z.star SCJ007: 73-93mm
Tektro C326 (extra-wide balloon tire rims only): 79-99mm

Recessed:
Tektro R556 (early variant of R559 with non-lockable quick release): 55-73mm
Tektro R559 (same arms as nutted): 55-73mm
Dia-Compe BRS 202: 55-75mm
IRD B76: 57-76mm
Dia-Compe DL800: 61-79mm

Thanks Kurt. I am aware of most of those, but a great list to research.

Cool. Then your Paramount turned out to use the same 610/750 set up as the more midrange Schwinns? I guess that makes sense.

IMO centerpulls are mechanically not that different from dual pivots, and they have the advantage of playing nice with fenders. Also, you can get fatter tires in and out without having to fiddle with your adjuster nuts.

I have a fair number of 50s through 70s frames, three of them have a larger front reach than rear (R.O. Harrison from 1950, Raleigh International [I'm pretty sure] from 1974, and Holdsworth-built Harding from 1974). Only 4 or 5 mm difference, but where's the sense in that one? My untutored opinion is that larger reach in the rear either has to do with preventing skidding of the rear tire due to overzealous application, or something to do with bikes with horizontal drops, fenders and wheel removal, but I don't know what.
