I owned a Porsche 356A for about 26 years and had a ball with it. I had just started riding racing bikes(old ten speeds) and it was cool to have the Porsche in the garage while all my day to day transportation was on my bike. I really didn't put that many miles on the Porsche , mostly just restoring and building an awesome engine for it to take to various events. Then the whole 356 thing got way over the top with $$$ and it ruined it for me. I sold it and now I still ride my bike and drive a "point A to point B" car. I still like the vintage racing bikes though , so the bike thing outlasted my lust for Porsche.

Looks lovingly maintained. Does it drive as good as it looks?

Drives as good as it looks, everything works like new, engine was rebuilt, I drive about 1000 km/year, nothing drives like an old air cooled 911.

Kudos for keeping the MFI. I love that mechanical injection pump running off, I think it was the cam, right?
By the way I didn't catch the model. S, E or T?

2.2, changed to 2.4 in 72, Porsche went from a 66mm crank to a 70.4 mm crank to increase displacement. Yes the MFI injection pump runs off the left cam, via a toothed belt.

Man. Now I'm looking for something like that, but in that condition I'm sure I'm priced out.

A good friend has a repair shop and he had a customer with a VERY original 66 911, red with black. It still had the chrome steel wheels and hubcaps, it was unmolested. The owner never drive it and once a year brought it in for the state safety inspection. I offered the owner $20k for it but he wasn't looking to sell it.

The owner lives on the Great South Bay and the car was under water when Sandy hit.

His insurance company totaled it and took it.

The red paint was faded and the driver's seat was worn on the edge, but all of that could of been easily fixed and buffed.

It's the one that got away.
