Why so much hate for Gatorskins?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It wouldnt, but it would prove a point. Not everything can be measured on paper.

People run out on their bike for a quick 20 miler, and get a flat (which literally happened 2 days ago to someone in the pack i was riding with). And my reply about science was tongue in cheek to rubiksoval, who obviously takes talking to complete strangers WAAAy to seriously. Could have just disagreed, but no he had try to insult me. No, your words weren't taken out of context.

You specifically said that you were faster than someone changing a flat.

I provided the physics that proved you're wrong.

I can get a flat, change it, and still finish before you do. That is a direct, factual rebuttal to your erroneous assertion, but you instead try to double down on it.

See how I perform? You can't see that far ahead of yourself.

But you're trying to argue about things that can. Real disadvantage for you, there.

I'm not sure what can be measured on paper (other than the dimensions of the sheet itself).

Some things can be. Rolling resistance can be measured. The amount of time that you spend on the side of the road fixing a flat can be measured.

Once again, point dexter rubik comes back with irrelevant posts. Let me spell it out for you.....IF I am m o v i n g....and y o u a r e n o t, t h e n by default I am faster. Whats not too get? I didnt say over a 100 mile distance, you can come out of your house and get a flat instantly. So if our destination is 5 miles away, I WILL BE FASTER. I dont need equations to tell me that. Im so confused why this is still a point of conversation. Youve raced? Ok, have you been a bike messenger for years in NYC? Have you ridden streets for thousands of miles? Real streets? Not your carefully designed/picked/curated race courses? Well then, in your race scenarios, your absolutely right and no one is arguing that. But I didnt see that the title of this thread was "Why not Gatorskins in Race Conditions?". Stick to your races and avoid gators. Got it. Everyone ride safe, and avoid rubiksoval, he will be flying by you like the wind on his far superior tires and training. I bow down to you sir with your race resume. You are a god amongst men. But on the streets, which is what the Gator was designed for, its far superior in my experience. And, if one is sitting with a flat, and I am not, then I am going faster. If you three choose to simply ignore this fact, then what can I say, you win. RR is better on Gp5000, but thats a 45 dollar tire which perhaps now, I will try in the future after all this praise from others. But for the conversation at hand, Gators are a good tire for reasons already stated. If you want to continue arguing, then all i can say is Ill be riding my bike while you waste your time arguing online.

It's not an argument when one person is wrong and just continues being wrong.

It's just a showcase displaying how you don't know what you're talking about.

We'll call it Team Rational.

And you're ignoring the fact that, when moving, the better tire will be moving faster for the same effort, so it really comes down to down-time with flats. Unless you flat very frequently, the better tire will be faster overall, even including tube swaps. It may not be faster on a particular, short ride with a puncture, but it'll be faster cumulatively.

And now I've probably given you more time and seriousness than you deserve.

This is my 4th pair of Gatorskins. 2nd pair of 27x1 1/4 (630x32c). I guess I don't ride enough because I've never worn a set out or had a flat.

The Gatorskin Hardshells have an ok ride quality. I like the way regular GSs feel though. I weigh just south of 240.
