Woo hoo! Made it out to the Spring Fever and managed to finish the 66 mile route all in one piece!

By the way, Greg, how'd the 200k go?

We rolled past that place today - corner of Eldorado and Medical Center Drive (the one we take from the service road across). We could have stopped in for a bite, and with all the darn flats today, probably caught up with the group by the time we hit 409!

Congrats on the 66. I'm fighting a rather sore throat this evening after the ride. Hoping it's just drainage stuck in my throat and nothing more after riding through all that cool / wet today.

Short review:

Started out wet and cool, my glasses and jacket were covered in the fine mist we were riding through within minutes of the start. I had a flat 9 miles in, looked like a piece of wire, about the size of a straightened out standard staple, caused the puncture. First time I'd had to change a tube on that bike on the road. Managed to break a tire lever trying to get the tire back on. Dang are those Fulcrum (Campagnolo) rims tight!

After that it was a good ride, weather went between wet and cool and just cool and damp. Both Ryan and I were having a hard time getting our legs to wake up and get into any decent rhythm. He was having some troubles on the long false flat climbs. Think we averged over 20 for the first 10 miles or so, trying to warm up. Settled into a 16ish pace for the middle miles. With only about 5 miles, right after the last rest stop, I was passed by a pack of about 8 fast moving guys from several clubs including PAC and RBM-Matrix. I jumped on the last guys wheel and just hung on for all I had left in my legs. My average went from 16.9 to 17.2 by the time I rolled back into the Civic Center parking lot.

I remember seeing somebody working on a tire near the start, seems like on the left side- if so, we probably passed each other twice. Check the Clydesdale forum and see if the bike looks familiar.

Sucks that you had that flat. The wet roads probably didn't help much.

I was going to try to stick around, but I was starting to get chilly so I hit it to warm up. Then I start trading pulls with a nice gentleman named Jim and it all went downhill from there.

It was a fun ride, despite the weather. And, damn, that stew was good.

It was nice to see you again, Cuda, and good to meet you, Hobartlemagne.

The local stews there are well known. I grew up on Hopkins County Stew. The large annual stew competition is held in the exact spot where they served the riders. You will need to come back for the real thing in the fall. See the followinglink for more details.

I am glad you had a good time despite the weather. My dad mentioned that riding with glasses was nearly impossible.
