I have filled and bled Shimano road discs several times without problems. It's easy . . . until it isn't. Can anyone help with this problem?

I replaced the rear caliper on my Shimano Ultegra R8070 disc brakes. I mounted the bleed cup at the bar and I opened the bleed valve on the caliper. I attached the full syringe. But when I try to push the fluid into the caliper, it acts as if there's a blockage. No matter how hard I push, the fluid doesn't flow into the caliper. I loosened the lever uptake adjustment at the handlebar, but still the fluid won't flow. Any ideas on how to fix the problem?

I took it to my LBS and they said it had a blockage in the line. Since there's nothing in the system that could be big enough to block the line, I SUSPECT this means that it developed a kink in the line where they routed it through the frame. At installation, they probably left the line longer than it needed to be and, eventually, a kink developed.

Do you suspect the kink was already in there before you replaced the caliper? Was it functioning ok then? My brakes worked ok, just needed some regular bleeding, then I discovered this problem.

Yes, it was there before I replaced the caliper. That's why I replaced the caliper. I knew the lever was fine, so I assumed the caliper was the problem. Only when I replaced the caliper did I discover the problem was in the line.

Hi. dont have a solution, just experience of similar problem with 2 ultegra disc brake levers.
Rear break stopped working over course of a few miles.
Thought it was either pads or fluid, so tried both.
Unable to top up the fluid in the reservoir. Took it to a bike shop, they had same problem with topping up and diagnosed the fault as a block somewhere in the lever system.
Purchased new lever - shop fitted it, but same problem.
its not the hose, or the calliper but the lever that's faulty.
This bike is only 6m old. Looks like Shimano have a problem somewhere.

Hey, anyone found a solution to this problem?

I’m having the same trouble. I can fill the break somehow from lever to caliper but it does not take fluid other way round. I reset all adjustments on the lever but does not help.

I had the same issue today. I solved it by winding out the free stroke adjustment screw a couple of turns. It’s the one on the outside edge of the lever towards the bars. Obviously you have to push the hood back quite a bit if you have the bleed funnel on as it’s normally accessed by rolling the hood forward.

I need still to try adjusting that screw. Biggest issue I was having was the tilted hose.
