After 50+ bikes in the last dozen years, it gets blurry.
To be honest, I am not paying close attention to my vintage or even road bikes any more.
I'm mainly riding mtbs and off road, hence the big sell off.

did a very short comparison ride between the Pinarello and the DR Pro. Definately need to adjust the Pin Ergo's. The Saddle was more comfortable too, a Brooks Pro.
I had two choices, a White Pro or a black Swallow. Neither are used and are not broken in.
After much deliberation, I decided to try the Swallow for thre reasons. First is it is very classy looking, I believe the design has not changed since about 1936. Found a statement saying it was the most compliant out of the box. Third was its very black color. I think it looks pretty good and it rides very comfortably. May need to make a couple of angle adjustments.

Probably will post one more time when the new skewers show up.

Sorry for not seeing it earlier, but what bar is that?

billytwosheds This works out really well, quite comfortable. The Ergos are easily operated with the rebuild for shifting and brake great with the calipers. Best braking bike I have.
I don't often use the drops but when I do, I like the angle to be supportive of my whole hand. All of my bikes are set up this way as opposed to the flats being parallel to the ground, as shown in post #64 . There has been discussion over the years about which is preferred. This is my preference. Like to go for the upper part of the bars parallel to the ground. Looks a lot like bull horns would work!

I would like to try the bars shown in #23 by gaucho777 . Been looking for them used. No luck yet. It is a lot of effort to swap bars and stems. I have a fair amount of Cinelli bars and a number of others I don't like for some reason or other. Need to purge the undesirables.
A black 1R stem was acquired that I may use. Liking the black accents more. Glad for using the black Calipers. Thinking about a black post too, maybe a Miche Supertype, since I don't have an Campagnolo Aero post long enough. The one I have is too short. Maybe red?

Update:
First about the Fizik tape. The Pin has the 2mm thick Endurance, I think. It has held up exceptionally well, in terms of staying white. The tape for the De Rosa is 3 mil performance tape. It is a bit more tacky. It has pulled from my gloves on every ride. The gloves are several years old so I would not have expected much pull from them. It cleans up well with Windex and a paper towel. not too happy with this performance. It is interesting that my hands get tingly sooner on the Pin then the De Rosa. Could be the thickness of the tape? Bought another set of the Endurance for replacement when needed.
On that note, I may replace the handlebar and stem. DD turned me on to Cinelli 1R stems with my previous preference 1A. The Pin has an XA, which has a very elegant shape with the exception of the rubber insert. Evidently they are admired by a fair amount of people based on the bay asking prices. 1R's are nearly the same.
Snagged a black stem here and have a black HB hanging on the hook. The problem is the difference in ID and OD of .4 mm. I am thinking shim. BUT, will it prevent rotation with the 1R? Brass or AL? Does anyone know what the torque spec is for a 1R?

I like the current silver for the cockpit and post now. Can't leave well enough alone. The current stem may be a bit long so replacing it opens the opportunity to change to black. Already replaced the saddle with black. If black is the new silver, then the post will need to change too, Miche?. Would that drive the aesthetics back to a white saddle?

To support the Red/Black/Silver theme, I found some Look Keo's with all three. Ordered and delivered today.

I need to pay attention to the details when acquiring stuff. I looked at the rims today to see if any were available on the bay. Well they are Ambrosia Nemesis and not readily found today, anyway. Nice right up about them being the last set used on rough surfaces like paris roubaix before carbon rims took over.

Those rims are cool - I like the details. Are those engravings/etchings or some sort of transfer/paint?
I always wondered how much added weight those gold ovals add, but one can't deny their aesthetic appeal.

Throwing this out there as an option. I made some custom hand-stiched wrap using fizik tape and leather thread for my LOOK KG86. I bought the leather thread from JOANN's Fabric Store, though I no longer see it available on their website. I've toy'd with the idea of using this handlebar tape on my matching, red De Rosa Pro. You could do the same with white tape & red or black leather thread. It did take a long time--about the length of a full baseball game--to finish the stitching.

@Drillium Dude - Yes the detail is very classy. They could be etchings as there is no edge except by the edge of the script. Definitely not a decal! My finger nail catches on the edge of the script and running my finger over it feels like they are raised or at least rough. What is also interesting is that they occupy the spaces between the spokes immediately following the O of AMBROSIO with the first O defined by the valve stem between the "R" and "S."
Note the tag on the valve stem looks like it has a date and possibly SN! The weight is advertised at about 430. Icons of cycling: Ambrosio Nemesis rims - Cycling Weekly
The wheels hubs are Campagnolo Record (Black) of the 10 speed era. I assume they are sealed bearings and therefore have some drag around the seals. When lifting the bike, wheels typically start rotating, demonstrating that gravity sucks. Not these, they don't rotate one bit. you can place the valve stem in any location with the result of no rotation. This could be because of my ignorance regarding newer sealed bearing hubs but the Mavic 501 hubed wheel does rotate.
@gaucho777 - Nice results! I will consider following your lead. That contrast really forces good spacing when wrapping! Great job on you!
The bar tape is a disappointment. This fizik tape is 3mm thick and is the semi tacky version. It does not clean up easily, not to its original color of white. It looks a little grey. The 2mm tape on the Pinarello is very clean even after several thousand miles. I will likely replace what is on there now when I settle on the stem and handlebars.
I am going to use black for both and the Miche Supertype post. If they do not please the eye, they will go on the currently black Trek 760.
I read this post again and noticed a split between bling and black. Though I would try both.

Nice account of your build for what, I’m sure, will be a beautiful rider. De Rosa bikes have a special soul. I missed this thread before but I’ll share a few gratuitous shots of my ‘96 Primato. I have four sets of wheels for it including Nemesis rims with Corsa CX tires that provide an incredible connection to the road. You’re going to love your De Rosa!
Another shot with the correct pedals. 100% Italian.
These wheels (with 20m clinchers) ride heavy but are the fastest set for this bike.

@majmt thanks for the comment! I have less than 100 miles on it and it the best of the bunch. Great shifting, great braking, great handling. I am still figuring out the fit. In the past I have always had the bar block the view of the front hub while on the bar behind the hoods. For this bike, the stem needs to be shorter. Before doing that I need to ensure the saddle is in the right fore/aft position. The rides very nice and with the extra low gear in the back, it is a little better on hills comparted to the 8V on the Pinarello.
@Eric F - Thanks for the input. I will take that into consideration. I can see your perspective of the black hub to black brakes to silver stem. A black stem would provide continuity in the vertical direction. What are your thoughts about he bar? Black or silver?
White will stay on the bar but may be supplemented with red or black stripe.

So little of the bar is exposed, I don't think it makes a lot of difference. A silver bar still connects with the rest of the silver components, but black would work just fine, too. Red finishing tape on the handlebar is perfect for this bike, IMO.

I ordered a Miche Super Type in black back in Dec. Showed up yesterday
finished installation this morning. This is what I did
Nearly every component on the bike is Record level stuff or better with exception of the post. Given the prices of a Record post of 10V era, I opted to try the Miche out.
After removing the saddle and post, I checked the ST for burrs. There were light scratches on the Chorus post. I used it to check the location of the burrs. the burrs were on the slot edges.
I used 320 emery paper to knock them down, which helped. I then tried a round file with nearly no impact.
Then it hit me that I have a set of fine file my dad used in his gun smithing attempts/successes. I used a tapered round one to get to the rounded portion of the bottom of the slot and created a chamfer to get rid of the burrs. Then I used a curved flat file to do the slot edges.
Success!
A little Phils grease and insert the post.
This post is less than 10g heavier than the Chorus and a lot longer. Didn't measure it It has 1 mm markings on the side with 5mm increments marked.
The design is very appealing. The lower clamp piece has retaining rails for the head. you have to slide it on from one end. Nice retention feature. The upper clamp has to be tipped into the lower like the cleat on a clipless pedal. A grub screw locks it in place in the rear.

so here is the look now.
Next up is the change to black stem and Handlebars.
Forgot to mention that the tilt for lowering the nose has a much larger range too.
finished installation this morning.

They measure their bars a little different than Cinelli does. A 44 cm would be what a Cinelli 42 cm would be!
