Most powerful solvent for aluminum rims?
Trying to clean up Gorilla tape residue and tubeless sealant - incredibly tenacious gunk. I've tried mineral spirits and acetone - acetone seemed a little more effective but it's still a lot of work. Seems like too much work.
Any recommendations for a more powerful solvent?
Is Muc-off glue and sealant remover better than acetone?

I don't know. I'd like to hear "X works better than acetone" before I go buy some. Not a fan of having various special cleaners but this gunk is kicking my butt and blistering my fingers. I'm ready to buy the special cleaner if it will help.

The only solvent I have in my garage stronger than acetone is methyl ethyl ketone (MEK). It can turn paint tacky just by contact. I'm not sure if it would work well cleaning goo off rims without causing some damage to the finish.

Typically if I have some tape residue I try Triflow and that will frequently work. Not always but sometimes.

X works better than acetone and he is also gon to give it ya.

I've used Goo Gone on a lot of things like label adhesives. I'd suggest trying it. The 3m product (Citrus Based Adhesive Remover) is based on an sweet orange extract. 3m stuff is usually pretty good. I'd try one or the other. PRobably the cheaper one first.
Rub on Goo-Gone, let it sit for 15 to 30 seconds, then use a Scotch-Brite pad. Then soap and water. It's not a sure thing but it's worked a lot of times for me.

Brake fluid or gasket remover. Both may discolor the rim - so test first.

Goo gone works better than acetone
I've used it on car wiring harnesses and removing labels from bottles or computer equipment. Removed 40 year old electrical tape residue with no drama, actually smells kind of nice. Acetone is actually hard on old wires.
Tubeless sealant I've never monkeyed with.

I left duct tape on windows for like a month after a hurricane. Goo gone works great.
It's slightly oily, so when you're done, I'd clean the braking surface with dish soap then rubbing alcohol. Unless you want discs.

I forgot about that citrus based product. Some of my customers that produce adhesive labels for the oil and gas industry go through a lot of citrus adhesive remover. I've used it myself while working on their machines and use a razor blade to scrape off the softened goo.

The best solvent might be Time. I've removed tape residue by applying a thin coating of heavy oil -- whatever is on hand -- and waiting overnight. Some folks use peanut butter, because the peanut powder holds the oil in place. Even cooking oil works.

Unfortunately, they cause cancer and are illegal to sell in California.
