Bianchi with Shimano PD-R555 Pedals — Oddball?
I bought a older Bianchi With Campy Record, Delta brake calipers, tied and soldered wheels. The odd thing is the Shimano clipless pedals are not SPD nor road but some kind of hybrid. Couldn’t find anything on these pedals based on the model stamped on the pedals??

Sounds like they are Shimano PD-R535, which was a SPD-R pedal from the early 2000s. SPD-R cleats are incompatible with SPD and SPD-SL.

Thanks T-MAR. That’s them (535 versus 555)!! Are the cleats available or should I retire them since it would be a third type of cleat/pedal?

They are kind of a crappy design in that they utilize external pontoons but have metal-to-metal cleat interface instead of plastic cleat, and unlike today's SPD-SL design these SPD-R cleats don't have as much width so even minor wear allows more lateral tilting and overall looseness and noise.
Prior to SPD-R, Shimano used a road cleat similar to their mtb cleats, which were of course all metal and even smaller.
So we see useful evolution here, though SPD-R's design was not long for this world, making cleats somewhat scarce today.
