New to Indoor Trainers
Hello everyone. I decided to get an indoor trainer, most likely will be the 2018 Wahoo Kickr. I'm a XC rider and don't want to use my current bike with the trainer.
Should I get a hardtail mtb or a road bike?

With the hardtail MTB, you can probably get closer to your outdoor riding position. With the road bike, you get a nice change, and it gives you the option to go for a road ride outdoors should you choose.

2018 kickrs are well documented as having problems, many persons have returned them under warranty and the wahoo supplied replacements still had the problems, some have even had multiple returns with the same problem.
Unless you are comfortable with a return policy and the time and effort involved in that be wary of a 2018 kickr.

I picked up the TacX Genious which is a wheel on smart trainer as I am too heavy for the wheel off style smart trainers.
I need to use it more
