Schwinn Sierra
On the local FB Marketplace for $20. I see plenty of Sierras but not appearing to be this vintage. Pretty much plan on grabbing it as it appears to be decent enough for the money. Any thoughts?

Hope it's still there, seems like there are a lot of good samaritan's out there telling folks their stuff is too cheap, had that twice lately when I thought they were a bit high, makes it hard to get a deal and this is a heck of a deal.

Its been up for over a week, and he is bringing it to work tomorrow so I can get it in the morning! Speaking of too high I saw a "Meet the Beatles" album stating its the first US issue, heck I bought one for $10 at a record shop and some guy has a less than mint one listed for $1700. Yikes.

I always try to make it happen as quickly as possible before its gone.
Here's a good example, I was there in a couple hours of the ad being posted, clear across town, $40 PX-10.

Sounds good, in PDX something like this probably wouldn't last a day. I have made arrangements to buy, started off across town, check one last time, "oh I sold it to someone else for more/who got here first, etc."

Great bike for riding I really like the geometry on these for a larger rider. I have 89 Hardrock that has this size geometry frame with nearly identical components which is one of the nicest all around riders I have owned. As for value I would say it's worth $150-200 nicely fixed up and ready to ride.

Got the Sierra tonight. The paint is severely compromised but it looks like the shiny finish underneath. Brakes need work as does the broken shifter for the front derailer. I like the bike and I am thinking what to do next. Maybe a single speed, or just go ahead and fix what's there....

Conundrum....
Severe paint damage on the mountain bike. Stopped at my local Lowes with a sample that was nearly identical. They couldn't come close to a match. SO my options are either live with it or repaint the entire bike. Ugh!

Sort it out mechanically and get it on the road, make sure it fits and you like it then see if an industrial or Auto paint supplier will put a custom match in a 2 part spray can, usually runs around $50 or less.
I know the paint is pretty rough but I would keep it original with touch up for the time being.
You're in this right enough but you won't be after a refinish so make sure before you go down that rabbithole.

Since the chrome under coat looks good and there doesn't appear to be any rust I would say clean up nice maybe some touch up and bit of wax. I would just ride it with the nic's rather than repaint.

$20? I'd leave paint as is. Little character. How bad is that shifter?

You'll need to change your name now @roadbikeChris. With the broken shifter you might want to think of doing a drop bar conversion.

It already has a nice dirt drop type stem. So handlebars, tape, brake levers and some bar end shifters.
