I cheat by pulling the stem out and hanging it by the bottle cage:
If I rotate the handlebars I can leave them in the stem. But it's not a quick fold because the handlebar clamp is not quick release.
I think using ergo bar ends would yield the same type of hand position as the bullhorns, without the interference. I will probably swap out the bullhorns this winter.

Yeah, it would be great if we could source a cheap QR stem that would work with this bike.

I am a newbie to a bike and this site and have a question. Is this bike good for newbie? It seems it requires some adjustment after assembly. I don't think I have any tools in my hand if repair needed.

the image with a close up on the hinge are the ones that i would like to give a heads up for genesis owner. the lock ring is not permanent and will possibly pops out during a long period of folding and unfolding. what i did is soldering it from the outside to permanently hold it, only from the outside portion so that the spring will still function. that way the lock ring will not pop out from the bolt. also the bolt from the handlepost, make sure you protect the base that holds it. any small dent will deformed the base and stop the bolt from moving and you can't close the handlepost anymore.

Here she is ready for upgrades. Great bike though.

I was having some problems with one of those spring latches and had to file a small burr off inside the hole. After that, I decided to upgrade the clip with some e-clips from Lowes. They are 5/32" in size and fit perfect add tight once installed.

mobilesuit1988,
it's good for a newbie...i would suggest to bring it to lbs before riding it for tune up.

I found a possible solution for anyone wanting to switch to a Dahon handlepost.
I'm in the process of upgrading a bunch of things to the Genesis and removed the handlepost to adjust the headset. Once off I realized that the fork is 1-1/8" and threaded. The big black ring is actually the nut for adjusting the headset. I was able to loosen and adjust this with a rubber strap wrench by the way.
I had come across this similar solution in Thorusa's technical section. Basically use a threadless stem adapter and the newer 1-1/8" Dahon handleposts.
Handlepost conversion
older Boardwalk Conversion
1-1/8" quill to 1-1/8" threadless stem adapter
https://www.amazon.com/Profile-Design...ds=ACTHRCONKT8
The added cost is the bad part, but could be useful to the right person.

He's suggesting you have a shop go over it to make sure everything's set up properly. Many mail-order bikes have machine built wheels that still need to be gone over by a human to prevent future spoke breakage, plus a mechanic can make sure your shifting and brakes are working right.

Each shop is different, just like an auto mechanic. Expect it to be over $40 at least, but probably more. Walmart bikes can be a pain for shops when the bike was assembled by a Walmart "assembler". Lucky us, this bike is received boxed and basically how all bikes are received. Just expect them to have to do more tuning on a part made to lesser standards.

The Recumbent Quant
This style of bike is a dime a dozen in China.
I could get the same thing here for around $150USD new.
I'd prefer to get something secondhand like this (1600RMB=260USD), rather than have to replace most of the low quality parts.

And both of our comments are not relevant to this thread...

Bike looks really nice. Did you have to do anything special to allow the use of the 7 spd freewheel (other than the shifter)?

Hello All,
I just registered to post on these forums. I was wondering whether anyone thought of converting the genesis to a single speed or double speed bike w/ front brake and coaster? On a different topic, I am currently in S. Korea. Walmart wont ship over here. So,a is there a similar priced alternative I can buy. I really like the frame design.
Thanks!!!

Nope, just the shifter and the limit screws on the derailleur. I'm using the stock derailleur at the moment, but plan to upgrade. I'm on the search for a new crankset as well, but trying to keep everything budget and not high end for this build.

Absolutely - I'll ship a bike over for you. I'll ask you to pay for the shipping in advance. Let me know what bike you would like and I will purchase it and send it to you. I will also ask you to advance funds for the purchase of the bike. I am reliable but we can use Paypal as an intermediary if that makes you more comfortable. My services will only add 20% to the bike cost and you cover all expense at cost plus 10%.
This is not a blanket ad / solicitation, just and attempt to facilitate a buyer getting what he wants.

The Genesis has a forwards-angled stempost, something which I have not seen on China bikes. So just check that before saying they are the same. (This is a Dahon Biologic design feature.)
