how are you all doing on your goals (if you set one).
Nice work... always good to have goals to help motivate on the tougher days. I just hit 10k miles for the YtD as of yesterday (25th). Nine weeks to go so might be able to hit 12K for first time in almost 30yr when I was a junior.

Stay safe out there.

I am currently 450 miles short of my 5000 mile goal. Strava had a challenge for the 5 k distance for the year. If I can stay motivated for a while longer , it should be done before Thanksgiving.

Congratulations on making your goal. It is very satisfying to work hard and accomplish a worthwhile goal.

Congratulations spelger! And I know exactly how you feel. I started the year with a 3000 mile goal thinking that would be next to impossible. When I hit 2500 miles I upped it to 4000 miles. Then 5000 miles and today I did it, hit 5000 miles for 2020. I'm totally pumped about this, 20 months ago I couldn't ride two miles without thinking my heart was going to jump right out of my chest. My goal for the year is now at 6000 miles, I'm confident I will get there and thinking about upping it for next year. I share in your joy!

I'm at 5007 miles for the year and can hardly believe it!

Thank you. I have to say I'm hugely grateful for modern medicine. The accident happened on a Saturday and I was back home on Monday with a titanium plate in my shoulder. Thanks to that plate I was pain free almost immediately. One of the doctors told me that, due to the nature of the break, without the plate there's a good chance the bone would never have healed properly.

I'm also grateful to the friend who loaned me the trainer. I had occasionally wondered about getting one but definitely not any more. I'd far rather brave almost any weather than do half an hour on a trainer. I can't see that riding a virtual route would make a lot of difference, either, and I'd rather spend that sort of money on a decent upgrade for the bike.

I was planning on going over the 5K mark on Sunday and set out on my local MUP. Was worried a few sprinkles were falling temp in the mid 40s. The plan was 51 miles, what I needed was 51 to go over the top. Got down to the far end of the MUP and it started drizzling. Then raining. I cut it short at about 38 miles which left me hanging with a 10 mile deficit. Was kind of miserable wet and cold. I hate the cold.

I don’t really have an annual mileage goal, per se, but in the last few years I’ve come to expect that I’ll bike about 4,000 miles per year. That was typically about 100 miles per week for all but 1 to 2 seriously wintry months.

However, I’m a bit over that this year. Switching a few things has really improved my saddle comfort and allowed me to extend the length of my rides.

So I’ve been going more like 150 miles per week when weather and schedule cooperate, which they did for the last few months!

My goals over the last few years were to simply ride more than the previous year. I had taken a break from cycling (combination of knees, life, etc.) and wanted to get back. I reached 1670 miles this year, in 5 months of cycling. I was hoping to get to 2,000, but season always is cut short by harvest (loaded semis flying by at 65mph).
However, I looked back at last year. Last year was like 350 miles, and the year before was like 150. So it is going in the right direction.

Congratulations to all, meeting goals or not. I had forgotten how much I like to ride.

I no longer make mileage goals, but I do make cycling goals. 1 - MTB more often, achieved. 2 - do a multi-day self supported "tour" - achieved. 3 - I had two specific very challenging solo one day rides (one double century, and one 115 mile gravel ride with 14k feet of climbing) - not achieved...I never felt adequately in shape or motivated for either. They are at the top of my goal list for next year, and I just bought a set of rollers for winter to maintain my fitness and be able to hit them earlier in the season.

Congrats Spelger. As of y'day, I have 6644 miles ytd. I set what I call a soft goal early in the year, 7000 miles, which I upped to 7320 to give me an avg. of 20 miles a day for all of 2020. It is a leap year. I wanted to be within 800 miles of that by the end of October, so, I am ahead of that. This is my 6th, maybe 7th, year in a row with over 4000 miles, after never hitting that number before.

The past couple of weeks, my mileage has dropped due to weather and other obligations. That is actually a good thing as I was getting a bit obsessed with the number of miles. I think, for the year, the most days off in a row is 5, and the most days in a row with a ride is 16. The only other year I set a mileage goal was 2017, passed 6000, with 232 days in a row with a ride.

When I retired a few years ago, I upped my goal to 5000 miles a year, which I hit the first 3 years. Being retired, that still gave me plenty of time for a real life too.

This year, with lots of solo riding I will be happy with 4000. Anything over about 40 miles alone gets kind of boring and hard to get motivated to get up early and drive to a start.

115 miles of gravel and 14k' of climbing sounds like the D2R2 180k, which is the hardest ride I've ever done.

I hate the trainer as well, so I got rollers this year. So far really enjoying them. Can't say the time goes by any quicker but the risk of falling and hurting myself adds a level of excitement.

My goal this year was 200km a month. I'm currently at 2265km for the whole year, so not far off now. And this was with basically not riding at all for the first four months of the year due to the Covid lockdown here in China, so I've been riding a lot more than my goal since May, including 675km last month (my biggest month of riding in something like 7 years).

I'm not a fan of trainers either, though it's not the boredom that gets me - it's having no wind due to movement causing a lot more overheating and sweat than you'd get if you were actually out riding.

My wife is from Shanghai. i often wondered what it would be like to ride in china. in most of my china experience the roads were crap. my last visit i think was last year or the year before and what a turn around for me. didn't leave the city but the roads were pristine everywhere i went. it was like night and day. but so many cars now.

you may not be a fan but when using a trainer you should use a fan.
