Seeking information on Sprick Escort
My wife gave me a folding bike 6 years ago. After being in storage for a few years I'm now in the process of cleaning it up and have been searching for any details on it--but with no success. The decals indicate it's a Sprick Escort, made in Great Britain. It's got a Sturmey Archer 3-speed AW hub stamped 87 - 9, so I'm guessing it was built around September 1987. A few numbers stamped on the frame near the rear hub are indecipherable due to the paint being knicked pretty bad. Very few other clues exist and since it was bought from a bike refurbisher there was no paperwork.
There seems to be no information about either Sprick or Escort on the internet, and several pages with comprehensive manufacturer lists offer no clues. I'm hoping someone on this forum may know more...
Thanks,
Dave

Interesting. I'd waded through a bunch of hits on Google that were in Asian languages but most were ebay type items. I didn't find that link. I wonder if my bike is (or was) British?

Then you might want to email these dudes https://www.kinetics.org.uk/, for example, or even A to B magazine or the Folding Society.

I can do that.
From what I've gathered so far, this may be one of many bikes built in Eastern Europe in the 80s and sold to be remarketed by manufacturers. Whether it's British built or assembled or not is up for debate, despite the stickers.

Interesting.
So have you found out the origin of the "Sprick" name?

It rides ok. The current saddle is very uncomfortable, so that would be the first mod and then I could see if it was ok for longer distances. The 3-speed hub was fine in flatter territory, but not in the hilly area I now live in, so I'm thinking of a different sprocket or some other gearing arrangement. I'm not sure I really want to do too much to it, perhaps instead find a good Twenty and mod that instead.
