Lance was a great TDF rider and a good cyclist, but I agree he is far from the "greatest ever". He still has a long way to go to win that title....
Unfortunately from the American perspective, cycling IS the Tour de France, and nothing more. There actually is alot more to bike racing than just the TDF, and to be the "greatest ever" you have to do more than just that (with some consistency).

So it's not enough just to compete, you have to win. And not just win something, you have to win everything.
Then I'm not even a real person.

Bosch has got a point. Cyclists like Merckx and Hinault had years when they would win the tours of Italy, France and Spain.

Why does all of Bikeforums work inversely with the rest of the world?
For example:
If you have a nice bicycle, you have no skill.
If you have a nice bicycle, you have a small wang.
If you win a lot, you're not that great.
If your bicycle is sub-$1000, you will drop the rest of the world without even thinking.
etc.

I call myself a cyclist because I wake up every morning and look forward to riding my bike, not going to my real job.
