Avid Elixir 1 VS Avid Juicy 7

My dual sus MTB came equipped with Avid Juicy 7s. They are one big PITA. With changing weather they have to be bled and their ability to modulate is not very good when compared to Avid BB7s or Tektro hydraulic brakes.
So, I recently came across a set of Avid Elixir 1s that I can pick up at a good price. I expect to pay around $35 for front and rear. I'll install them myself so no costs there. The question is, in the opinion of the folks here, are the Elixir1 an improvement over the Juicy 7s? I don't mind making the change, and after selling the Juicy 7s on CL, the cost will probably be around $20 to make the change, maybe a little more if I replace the pads on the Elixir brakes. I just don't want to waste my time if this doesn't represent an improvement. What do you think?

Both are junk. No way I'd buy a used set of 5+ year old entry level SRAM brakes.

Bikes: Too many. Giant Trance X 29, Surly Midnight Special get the most time.

They are both similarly terrible. Buy cheap Shimanos, or possibly newer SRAM Levels, or really anything except a taperbore Avid.
