After 6 Years...The Tete...is Done.

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

After 6 Years...The Tete...is Done.

6 years ago today, I delivered a Lemond Tete de Course frame to a local and very talented painter. The story of the delays and postponements became the stuff of legend here on BF and after 3 years, I stopped talking about it. Few here now will remember it.

Well, thanks to some persuasion and perseverance by my wonderful girlfriend Jan, I now have the completed frame. If I wasn't leaving for 10 days tomorrow, I would post photos...and the complete story. (Edit - photo on page 2)

At this point, I'm not sure what I am going to do with it. While it is VERY unique, it represents a completely different era in my cycling life...one that I have evolved and/or grown apart from.

I may build it or I may sell it. Or just keep it and do nothing for awhile. Maybe a long while. Regardless, I have it and I'm happy that the saga is complete.

FWIW...

I remember very vividly. I took 2 years off of the forums and recently returned. One of my first thoughts was wondering if I missed the pictures of your completed bike.

Glad that I did not miss the end of it.

Wow, I remember the bike taking on some mythical status.. when people weren't joking about it. I guess it's good to get some sort of closure.

I actually searched your posts yesterday to see if there was any update on the Tete. I'm glad to hear that you finally received it. So, would you recommend this painter.

Holy. ****. I'm relatively new, at least well after this saga had started, and I'm surprised. I can't believe he actually finished the job.

Please at some point post the whole story, and give us some pictures!

I only stayed around here to hear this. I can now leave these forums fulfilled.

You know, after all this time I'm really more interested in seeing you post here than to see the bike. And the bike is gorgeous (I just know it is).

I pop in here on occassion, glad I was here to catch this post. It's been a long time coming.
Well done, congrats!

I hope this doesn't mean the end of your participation on BFs (as some have implied in various post over the past couple of years).

55/Rad,

It is clear to me from looking at the bikes you've designed that you are an amazing artist. I can't wait for the day when I can afford to buy a "55/Rad" designed bike (and I am not kidding about that). I for one would love to see the pictures of the bike along with an explanation from you about the evolution of your design choices. It actually will be a very interesting glimpse into the early influences in your artwork and how it carries over to your current designs.

Looking forward to it!
