Get well soon, MMach5

I've seen his posts here, so I'm sharing this from a local board:

For those of you that know MMACH5, I just found out that he was hit by a car yesterday on his commute to work.

Michael is an avid 150+ mile per week commuter and bicycle rights advocate.

He is extremely safety conscious to the point that he gets teased about his high visibility gear and other precautions.

He has actively been a part of the DART bicycle committee and any other opportunities to further bicycle riding in DFW.

His bike is an extension of him as a person.

No word yet on the actual accident. All we know is that it happened near Ferguson Rd and Cotillion near his house in Garland.

The EMS called (his wife) from his cell phone, but the police don't have any report available yet.
He has a broken neck, lower back, pelvis, left hip, all his left ribs, punctured left lung head laceration, spline laceration and the artery to his spleen is leaking.
...
The good news... He has been conscious and speaking just a little as well as moving his arms.

The family has only seen him once for a few minutes.

Please keep a good thought, and say a prayer if you're disposed to do so, for one of our own

Thanks for sharing. I've often thought that when "one of us disappears," there's no one on the board who will know, as many of us never have contact with anyone here outside of the forums. Thoughts are definitely with MMach5 and family...

Oh my... that is a lot of damage indeed: broken neck, back and pelvis, sounds very serious. This is horrible news. I hope he's in good hands.

holy crap, that is awful. My best wishes.

Can't remember any specific posts off the top of my head but I'm sure I've used some of his insights when starting up commuting by bike -- it won't stop me, but it's scary knowing that something can happen to the best of us.

I heard about this on Facebook (since he's in the local area), but didn't know him by his real name. Get well quick!

Have corresponded with Mach5 and tried to meet up. Horrible news. Will be praying for him and will try to find out where he is locally to see if the DFW BF guys and gals can help out.

I saw Mike and Heather at the ICU this morning. It breaks my heart to see him hurt so badly, but there are a few bright spots: he is able to be awakened when the docs need to, he can move his arms, hands, and feet. The broken back is going to be a bastard of pain, but is a recovery issue and not an immediate threat. The broken neck will have to have an MRI, but swelling needs to go down to see how bad it might be, and while the bleeding spleen has stopped, they have to watch that bleed closely. He's on air to keep that lung from collapsing, and he was going to surgery to have pins/plates put in his left hip. Please continue to keep him in your prayers, and if you are local, let's continue to rally around this family...

Tate tells me:

He was in surgery today getting his hip and pelvis pinned around noon. All limbs are moving, and it looks like his spleen stopped bleading. Back break is minor, neck is pretty bad, they won't know more until swelling reduces and a new MRI is to be done.
