Helmet Painting
Bought a new helmet. Thinking of an extra gloss coat to slow down color fading. I have 2 helmets that color faded in a year.

micro in-mold shells are potentially printed, finished on the inside of clear plastic, then placed in the mold..
a vacuum molded thermo plastic sheet, then the holes cut, and the foam, expanded, into it.

I will do a prep job of covering the holes then using a paint spray to add an extra glaze. I haven't looked at the paints yet. Probably settle for
plastic or hobby clear gloss.

be aware that the stuff that you evaporate in spray paints, the vehicle, will potentially dissolve the EPS.
I have only painted fiberglass shell Motorcycle helmets ,
(mine half red, half black, with a reflective tape stripe over where I masked off the 2nd color.)

The past 20 years I've been building my bike stable of four. Road bike,MTB,cross and a big dummy. Used to be a mile monster. Had 3 shoulder operations the last 4 years. I still manage to commute 80% by bike all four seasons. I hope to get back to touring.

Hi,
the shell of bicycle helmet is there to allow it to
skid. Do what you like to it, it's not structural.
rgds, sreten.

Yes, but as Fiets said, the carrier may dissolve the foam inside the shell. Once that starts, the helmet's trash.

Try painting a styrofoam cup and see if it holds up.
(I don't think it's a good idea anyway.)

Use a water based paint for styrofoam or around styrofoam,it won't melt the foam.
Latex or water based enamel paint will work fine.
Now you just need to get it to stick..... I'm not sure what they are made out of,just a light sanding might work or you may need a water based primer of some sort, not sure.
Motorcycle helmets you can paint like a car.

Thanks for the replies. The painting idea was an impulse thought to match an impulse buy. State had a tax free weekend.

Bell Metro and Bell Citi. I haven't taken pictures. They are not completely faded but it is easily noticed. 2 commuter helmets that I
wore year round.
