It's definitely a 1987 model based on the the 1986-1987 Campione del Mondo decal and the the serial number, while not fully impressed, appears to indicate November 1986 manufacture, which would be appropriate for a 1987 model. However, the interesting fact is that the serial number format is typical of Taiawanese manufacture while other 1987 Premio that have surfaced are from Japan. The Japanese versions have derailleur cable routing under the BB shell, while this sample employs routing over the BB shell via a clamp-on set of tunnels.

This is a 1988 model. The serial number is from 1988, the decal style is 1988-1989 and 1988 was the last year for the Formula II tubeset. It also has the cracked paint, typical of 1988. In 1988 Bianchi had three Formula II framesets, the Giro, Trofeo and Campione D'Italia. It's obviously not a Trofeo, as it it used the Argentin colour scheme with the black stays and forks. The difference between the remaining framesets was in the forks, with the Giro receiving Formula II and the Cd'I getting Aelle.

Yeah I don't know what the deal was with the paint in '88 but a lot of them have that cracking, yours is particularly bad

Bianchi Girl,

That Long cage Superbe derailleur is kinda special. It has been sitting in my SPECIAL STUFF box for a while. I thought this Bianchi was the right bike for it. Along with the 28 tooth cog in the rear I think it makes this bike more rideable and still qualifies as "original" equipment. If someone really needed it they could probably swap in a 7 speed hyperglide with a 34 tooth bail out gear.

I can remember in the mid 1980s when that cracked paint finish was all the rage. I bet if you were to run your fingertips over that particular paint job that it'd feel smooth to the touch.

Cheers

This is true. The paint on my 88 Giro and Krono have cracking but under the clear coat finish. You can't feel the crackling paint just the smoothness.

I don’t think this was intentional like the wonderful crackled finish on some Fujis of the era

The cracking of Bianchi's mint celeste paint is known as celestitis (celeste-eye-tis). There is also a human form, which causes buyers to "crack" and pay too much for celeste coloured Bianchi.

2012 Campione kind of a problem child will probably cost me more to make it a decent ride than it would to buy a real bianchi

has Claris drive train brake levers rattle like crazy and shifts as fast as an old Chevy 4 speed and in the beginning it rode so hard it could shake your fillings out . Fixed most the ride ability issues ( 700x25 Gatorskins, brooks b17 and double wrapped the bars) , and yes she’s real but the wrong color lol. I’ll get her right some day.....

1984 Bianchi limited update. You know where this is going right

Almost done. Because I will be using this bike more than my weekend warrior one. I opted to go newer components. Trying to keep the look. It's not 100% so

done so don't judge
Had to go with new brak caliper's because of the wheel change..
the original rims were 700x23 but the newer wheels wouldn't fit. Had to replace the calipers
