Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

APS was a terrible loss. We loved their store. I think the only custom work I got from them was a beautiful set of tapered spin sheets. These days, I get all my rigging from a buddy whose boat I used to race on and has a day job as an engineer.
His name is Rod Favela, and he has coached through Colgate so you probably did meet him. He also does a lot of the Caribbean regattas both coaching and as crew. He's helped me with all of my boats. I raced with him on his VX One when it was first launched. Really fun boat. The regatta we did was all heavy air (20+) and was on the cold side. My knees were shot from all the hiking we had to do to keep the boat flat, both upwind and down. The constant planing though was a real kick. He and his wife have been friends of ours for 20 years or more.

Years ago, I agreed to donate T-cells for a friend of mine. To see if it would work, I had to go through some testing which involved a number of injections in my arm. It was all done in a lab setting. My skin started bubbling, and I must have freaked out since I had watched Altered States a few nights earlier. Passed out cold.

That ended my donation as they said they could not take a chance on me passing out during a 6 or 7 hour transfer procedure.

Felt bad that I couldn't help my friend and wasn't HTFU enough.

It must have tickled your parasympathetic nervous system and caused a drop in your BP. Happens in otherwise presumably healthy people.

Yup. It's not the drug, it's the shot anxiety, and especially healthy young people with a male preponderance.

When I started 1st grade, the teacher, had a meeting with my parents to discus my being left handed. I was Normalized by being forced to become right handed. However I still bat left handed, hockey I go both sides. I cant swing a golf club to save my life, either side. Sledgehammer, axe are also left sided skills, as is sweepingand using a shovel. Things I learned left handed stayed left handed unless I relearned them back then.

Maybe? I believe it was a large needle in my thigh and I'd never had an injection like that.

I estimate it has been seven or more years since I last shoveled snow.

Well I would hope so. I hear that occurs roughly 50% of the time.

She just thought you looked fragile. :ή

Fainting is common with needl-y procedures. For instance, it happens in about three in 1000 blood donations.

Ugh. COVID being transmitted at work. Lax hygiene cited. Glad I don’t have to go in for a couple of weeks.
