FS - Shimano Deore Touring Group
Full Shimano Deore Touring Groupset, 1980s Vintage! $150.00 plus shipping.
Really cool and in excellent shape, pulled off a Lotus Eclair touring bike from 1984, includes everything in the photos - Triple crankset, bottom bracket, front and rear derailleurs & down tube shifters.
Also included is a full front and rear set of Deore BR-MT60 Cantilever brakes and a Shimano MF-TZ500-6 speed freewheel cassette.
This is a very unique Groupset for your vintage 80’s build.

Oh yeah! That is a really great group. I know the pedal thread size is kind of scary, but those are my favorite vintage pedals. They are perfect for my huge feet.

one more thing: i'm not sure if the derailleur/shifter instructions are available online anywhere, and there are a few set-up tips/tricks mentioned in them.

Worth inquiring;
Are those downtube shifters for b-type mounts?
I suspect your eclair has the stops built into the bosses. Thread pitch is also different than most down tube shifter mount braze-ons.

Yes, the down tube shifters are the odd B-Type.... not sure if there are adaptors for them?

While not as easily available like the 74 BCD, I wonder if an 86 BCD ring could be made to work. They are still made.
I had no idea Shimano used a TA copy of a crank. Leave it to them, however, to screw up the BCD of everything else. It is tempting to just use it anyway because of the availability of Cyclotouriste rings.
Is that FD half-step specific or is it simply more road oriented? Later models actually came in two flavors: ATB and half-step. The former with a deeper inner plate that would rub the middle ring in a half-step system, the latter looking more road-ish.
I super cool group set representing Shinano’s accidental success, not in touring, but in the new ATB world with their beefy RD and quality canti’s.

Does the rear derailleur work with indexing?
And if you use a pedal adapter does this mean the pedal is positioned further from the crank? Would you notice that while riding?

When I rode the Lotus Eclair with this group installed, the downtube shifters only had a friction setting. They worked fine this way, however I would think that if you were to install index shifters that the rear derailleur would follow them. What model shifters do you have in mind?
I’ve no idea if a pedal adapter would move out the crank q-factor, it would just depend on the adapter and the pedals.... though I would think it might.

This derailleur came out before Suntour’s patent on the slant parallel expired, so I’d be reasonably confident that it does not index. But it’s still a cool RD, especially with a Suntour-inspired “quick change” derailleur cage.

I agree, probably not going to work the best with indexed shifting. One thing that is really cool about these Deore rear derailleurs, the cable anchor is mounted on this little bridge that works to auto-trim the derailleur. I also have a Lotus Eclair with the same group. It's an excellent shifting group.

I can maybe answer part of that. I have an eclair with the same group. It does have the unusual shimano bosses. I wanted to use bar end shifters, so I had to file the down tube barrel adjusters to fit. It works fine enough. I’m unsure about adapters, but you would need them for the Campy style bosses. Worst case scenario you would use a different pair of shifters, but that is usually the least exciting parts of a group, well, to me at least.
