Geez I rolled within about a foot of a rattler a couple years ago. Clearly I should have been paying more attention to the road.

Maybe we need a snake thread on this forum too. I have a few cycling vs snake stories.

I like snakes. A few years ago when I was riding somewhere between Poplarville and Gulfport, Mississippi, a big black snake came highballing out of the tall grass at the edge of the road and directly under my wheel--no time to stop. Poor fellow, I could see him tying himself up in knots in his death throes as I fled the scene. I still feel bad about it.

I've ridden on a Diamondback before, but I've never ridden over one, thankfully. Or even very close to one.

Although I live in a huge metropolitan area I often come across interesting wildlife. Especially when I ride early on the morning or late in the evening. Rabbits, snakes, coyotes, owls, opossums, armadillos, lots of birds and yesterday morning I saw this beautiful bobcat right behind our house. Unfortunately I could nit get closer. He or she was very shy.

We waited all winter to get to spring.. now that spring is here, we get rain! Lots of rain! The Illinois river is getting close to flood stage and sandbags are being prepared for downtown Peoria.

On the plus side, I don't have to wear multiple layers to go out for a ride, so I'm not complaining!

Nice whale!
The little town of Marshall, California comes through again with a whimsical denizen of the deep: I'm not so foolish as to claim that a sheet-metal octopus trumps a rebar whale, but you must admit the octopus does somewhat resemble a Joker.

Does a real live sea lion beat a metal critter? (Look right next to the rear of the lone boat).🤔 Saw this guy today in Sacramento, of all places. Apparently, he swam up a river or another. 🤔😎

Wow. When I saw your picture I assumed it must've gotten caught behind some Delta water infrastructure and became confused. But damn, when I looked it up it's a relatively normal passage for them.

Is anyone familiar with Robert Frost's short poem "Nothing Gold Can Stay?"

Spring in Vermont can be hard. We had two substantial snowstorms in May, and it was cold until about a week ago. Now spring is really happening. Pear and plum trees are blossoming and hermit thrushes are calling. I have always said that a really nice May day in Vermont is as nice as any day can be on anywhere on the planet. Today was such a day.

The only thing this picture has to do with cycling is that it's taken from the porch from which I started and finished this morning's memorably lovely ride.

We don't do 'spring' here, either. We jumped from 'maybe spring will come this year' to 'is it July already?'
From this morning's ride:

Probably west-southwest. Lingering fog bank.

But the smells! Early wildflowers, black medic, wet earth! Exhilarating!

Very awesome sheet metal cephalopod. It will be a week or so before I am back to the seacoast, I took the whale pic in September. If I see something interesting this summer I will post.
