Not totally vintage, 1998 or so but

Powder coated Voodoo Wazoo frame
IRD jis BB with Campy Chorus crank, set up 1x
Wheelset 1, tubeless with 40's
Wheelset 2, Junk rear with front Dura Ace 7400 hub with DT Swiss 460 with twisted spokes to avoid buying new spokes.

Only a strike occasionally when used as a mountain bike. Granted, I only push this back hard downhill on dirt roads but I bet it's got as much or more clearance than anything else.

I'm almost disgusted to type this out, but you good people deserve to know in the terrible way that I have sinned.

I've got a 1985 Tempo frame that developed a crack in the BB/DT junction.

Thinking, "oh, this thing isn't worth getting fixed, so I'll just do what I've always been curious about doing"

So I ground off the shift bosses and derailleur hangar

Rode it as a fixed gear for a tiny bit with a godawful gold anodize deep-v wheelset borrowed from a friend. I actually rarely ever rode it because it was so garishly ugly.

Later that winter, guess who was wishing they had a trainer bike, you know, with a place to mount an RD?

It still hangs in my garage, reminding me of what an idiotic idea that was. Honestly, turning it into a stool would be a more dignified existence.

Drilled the fork

I suppose the fact that I drilled the front fork of my Paramount track bike to put a front brake on it for street use would be appropriate here.

I must confess, I defaced my bike: I used Cricut vinyl to cover the shouty PARAMOUNT decals on the down tubes and fork blades... not only that, I also covered the other loud and boastful factory markings on my '91, except the head tube decal, that was deemed tasteful by the livery committee. You'll have to take my word for these transgressions since I have not enough power to post photos of the dirty deeds.

My 1974 Raleigh International sounds bad, but it's a nice bike. It has a very cheapo headset, but hey, it's fine. And it has a Shimano Sora rear derailleur. Hand-painted with a brush.

For a while, it even had stem-mounted shifters on it.

OMG, that's brilliant. I might just imitate you. It combines the best of all worlds. Trigger shifters are really better than brifters, and they're less expensive, too. And you placed them perfectly.

My righteous indignation will surely follow soon, but right now it's blocked by confusion. How did turning it into a fixie help mitigate a crack in the bottom bracket?

So you strayed from the pure path and joined the cult of Grant Petersen? I fear that you are beyond redemption. I would suggest wearing wool underwear as penance, but you're probably doing that voluntarily.

The flipped rear brake compounds the error of the Englishmen who placed the cable stops. The front hub is an offense to the senses. and the rear fender line should never have been allowed near an image of the Eiffel Tower.

I thought that I wouldn't care about grinding things off since it was already cracked. I figured this was the end of the road for this frame anyways.

Definitely more the thread for a pic of my road bike than the classic sticky. This 25” late 80s bottom of the line Sprint has inherited some of my nice road bike parts from the late 70s along with some new parts. The results will no doubt be disturbing to some, though it is fun to ride.

Yes, you do see first gen Dura-Ace cranks with Odyssey platform pedals. It’s really that bad.

Are you looking for a way to get the shifters higher on the bike you posted above?

The clamps are sold with the extra bar piece. I think "handlebar extension" should get you some hits.

Thanks. No, I ride in the drops, so bar ends are the thing.

I’m actually thinking of putting an extension like this on the touring bars on my vintage MTB, if it could let me come up with a sort of aero-ish riding position.

My first fixed gear conversion was an old Basso that a friend gave me - fun project but it was way too small, so I had the FG wheels and SS crank and such when I was given a Centurion Ironman that fit better but was bigger than perfect and converted it with the Basso parts. Not only did I hacksaw off both derailleur hangers, the rear brake bridge, and the shifter bosses, I pulled off a cable guide which ripped a hole in the top tube. I covered the hole up with a sticker of some sort and rode it as a commuter for a couple years. I liked the idea of having a burner bike that meant nothing to me.

They're called "Nitto Lamp Holder 2-70" with a longer tube trimmed to fit. The tube is 22.2mm or otherwise known as 7/8" thin wall aluminum tubing to allow the mounting of trigger shifters without modification.
