Agreed on the beauty of Loudon County gravel. It’s a spectacular place to ride, when it’s not hot and humid! Once out there, you owe it yourself to take the gravel road up the backside of Mt. Weather, at least if you have my masochistic tendencies (see this route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/28407825). There’s also one up the Naked Mountain, but it doesn’t have quite the same leg and lung busting gradients that suddenly give way to a heavily guarded federal facility. It’s quite an experience.

That looks like a serious climb. Definitely a fall ride. With water being difficult to get, it will have to wait until fall. I was surprised that there were few hills in my ride, very gentle rollers. Thanks for the route, will give her a roll this fall, anxiously awaiting my new tires.

So many great rides in that area of the state. Plus great beer nearby!!

Well this will most likely be my favorite thread. Once I break the post # barrier I'll get some shots of my rides up.

It's a real nice rider. So funny though how it's one of my first bikes out of childhood then left abandoned and moved around from shed to shed for 30 years then find it was one of my best bikes all along.

I rode the C&O canal yesterday and got hammered by the massive thunderstorms. 70 miles from Brunswick to Williamsport and back. I was 12 miles from the end when the heavens opened up. I was using road tires but luckily most of the rain fell when I was finished with the dirt section and onto the grey cinders. The lightning and thunder were unreal.

nearing Williamsport

Some of the dirt/stone section of the trail before the rains

I had to take a dip in the Potomac before going home

The closest area to me than I can get a good gravel ride in. A bit hilly and yet also flat.

A buddy and I put together a 40ish mike route through Knoxville, TN that included some nice gravel and some rather rough spots on the south end of the ride. The Urban Wilderness area has some great options for routes.

I’ll update with photos once I hit 10 post.

There's something majestic about coming across a tower yarder at the top of a ridge. Like the foothill wants to be a tall ship.

Bikepacking trip in Canaan Valley West Va down along the Balckwater trail to the Shavers Fork. The Donnellys MSO maiden voyage, nice tire, no issues but I did snap an RD cable, made for a difficult return up some serious climbs

I did a gravel century ride yesterday. Well 86mi gravel and 15mi of total connecting pavement.
Ridewithgps claimed it would be 2300' of climb. I knew that was conservative, but didn't plan on the actual 4948' of climb!
Windy and hilly.

I was too exhausted to take many pics.
Here is one that is similar to most everything else i would have taken. This was a nice part of the ride because it was fun rolling hills and I was on a dirt B road.

Not a lot of stuff but it works.
